My choice: A9 toolbar
Ivan | Wed, 2004-11-03 12:50I touched up on A9 before, but now that the A9 toolbar is out for Firefox I feel I have to talk about it some more. You can install it in no time and start enjoying it's numerous functions. If you have an Amazon account use that to log in. Here some of the features of the A9 toolbar I'd like to highlight:

On-line Bookmarks
You can import your current bookmarks from Firefox to your A9 toolbar. Install A9 on all your machines and you'll be able to access the same bookmarks at all places. Fore example you can add a link at work and open it at home. And, if you're on the road you can just log-in to your A9 account in an internet cafe and use your bookmarks.
Bookmarks 'Discover' section
At the end of the list of your bookmarks there are couple of special folders that at first I thought are advertising, but I was pleasantly surprised. The related website category is especially worth discovering.
History
You can access all your browsing history. Check out that site at home that you just visited at work. And, go back in time with your search history too. Way back! Check out what you searched for in 2003!
Diary
Now this is really cool. You can add notes to websites you visit. I can imagine this becoming an essential tool for browsing, especially if I'm looking for material for a certain subject. The beauty is that the Diary note will automatically show up when you visit that site next time. Also, you can browse all your notes and see which websites has been tagged.
Site info
At first I thought this is useless, but it turns out to be pretty cool, because besides the statistical information about the site, it also tells you what people who visited this site visit as well. Just like Amazon's most useful feature when looking for music. You like Massive Attack you will be suggested to check out Portishead too. Same here, you like MacMinute, you'll be suggested Apple Hot News, Applelinks, etc.
Lists
Finally a small time saver. When you search for stuff you will be given a list of hits. If you click on the first link, but you didn't find what you were looking for Safari would have the little orange back button in the search box that would take you back to your search results in an instant. Lists take this concept further, just click the Lists and you will be given a menu with the search results with their status, so you don't even need to remember which links have you visited already.

I prefer the A9 search plugin for firefox. A9's toolbar is just ridiculously big and unnecessary
