3 Dog Logo

Logo for the new biz. The name was derived from personal reasons, the word north was added to designate future business location later this year. That and the fact that 3 Dog Design was already taken.

I don't wish to cliché up the logo with paws, snouts or actual animals. I have those critters already in the flesh/fur. I've tried to stylize the 3 with a brush affect at the end to denote art. I know I'm not there yet so any constructive criticisms would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Not bad, though the long tail on the 3 is really going to limit the legibility of this logo as it gets smaller. Are you a freehand artist?

Some freehand, but mainly graphics. Find the two marry well together.

By the way, good catch on the tail. That's the part that's bothering me; that and the shape of the 3.

I would suggest altering one of the "D"'s and one of the "g"'s, so that it seems more handwritten and less "fonty". (I'm a word maker-upper)

Great suggestion.
Thanks-a-lotter.

I know how hard it is to create an identity for your self. I've been going through it for 4 years!

However, from an outside point of view... This isn't working.
The name is a forced. North looks and sounds as if was an afterthought.

Your stacking of the elements is lopsided, with lots of odd spaces and gaps.

The hand wrought type looks like a 'safe' attempt at a Ralph Steadman design.

I'm not going to tip-toe around this anymore...
It's really pretty awful. Sorry.

I'd really recommend finding a new name that works for you. I think you'll find it will be MUCH easier to work with.

North Dog design?

Hey. No need to be apologetic about an opinion, ever. If I didn't want to hear an answer I wouldn't ask the question.

The name 3 Dog North Design will not change. It took me some time to arrive on that name and it was for personal reasons. In fact, one of those reasons is sitting in an urn in my closet right now waiting for the other two to join him. (hopefully, not too soon)

I tried travelling down the clean, 2010 accepted linear logo path, but it didn't seem to tie in with the meaning of the words. I felt I needed a more animalistic, primal image.

It never dawned on me about the correlation between my proposed logo and Ralph Steadman's work. Didn't mean to come anywhere near the man's style. If anything, I would rather emulate his muse, Mr. Thompson. Hmm...Gonzo Graphics maybe?

Good firm stance!

I'd really suggest working up the 'primal' aspects.

I think you may have something there. Something inspired from the caves of Lascaux! Try a (literal) hands on approach to your typography.

Best of luck, I'll be looking forward to the future iterations.

You're right the "3" needs some work. At first impression, It thought you were trying to stylize (very abstractly!) some sort of dog or something. Didn't dawn on me right away that it was supposed to be a numeral 3.

Maybe attempt a font mix? Create the 3 in something solid - maybe a chunky san-serif font or something, then tinker with the "Dog North Design" text once you get a "3" that you like.

Those are my suggestions. As Nat always suggests, try putting it together without color first, too.

And I like the suggestion of adjusting out some of the characters in the text so it looks more like something truly hand-written instead of "fonty".

Thank you, everyone. I hear your comments and feel more work is needed as well. I will be approaching it from a hands-on perspective, working up the logo freehand so as not to be "fonty" (lovin' that word).

* The cave of Lascaux. Inspiring. Can't wait to break out the contés. *
