The December issue of Consumer Reports magazine features Apple's new iMac G5 on the front cover along with the caption, "Unspectacular results for Intel's new processor. Plus 59,940 reasons to reconsider Macs. "Inside the issue, Consumer Reports writes, " In this atmosphere of low expectations, Apple Computer has actually raised its support satisfaction for desktop computers over the past three years to levels well above all competitors, while offering the most reliable desktop hardware. [...] Another factor working in Apple's favor: Macs are vulnerable to few viruses and little spyware because both target mostly Windows-based users. Symantec, maker of Norton AntiVirus, says approximately 60,000 viruses aim at Windows-based PCs, but about 60 target Macs." Consumer Reports, arguably the most respected consumer ratings publication, recommends the new iMac G5 for "reliability and support." The Dec. issue also highlights Apple's iPod as one of the best holiday gift ideas.

You will know fear...Then you will know pain.
Then you will use a Mac.

can you believe that after so many opinions and researches, people still don't get it???
not that i want to change anything about our exclusive club of Mac users. it's just perfect the way it is.
there is nothing wrong with using a PC. it's just a tool. just disregard our PC bashing Mac praising. ;)
it's what we do with our tools that matter, not how. nobody cares what tools Michelangelo used to sculpt the statue of David?
Historians care. :) Very very much.
Humans love one-ups-menship. Why drive a Geo Metro when you can drive a gas guzzling, bus-like, geo metro eating SUV? Who cares if you will never take it off-road and will cry at every little scratch.... it's bigger, it's faster, it's badder... thus, we must have it.
On the flip side, I've been a PC user for over 20 years... I grew up HATING macs and hating every moment spent on a mac.... then I found out I'm pretty good at graphic design... so I get a degree (more macs).... then I get a job... even more macs! After using my mac at work... I'm finding myself hooked. I even downloaded itunes for my pc. I don't know if I am ready to bite the bullet and rebuy all my software... but I do know I'm enjoying my mac more than my pcs at the moment. I can use one mac to do everything I use 3 pcs at home to do.
Oh well.. better get back to work. :)

That's absolutely not true. Lots of people know what's great about the Mac and at the same time know what's great about a PC.
There are several reasons why people use a PC;
a) There is a lot of software for the Mac, but it's not even a tiny fraction of what you can buy for Windows or any other OS that you want to use on a PC.
b) People always say that one of the reasons to switch to Linux is free software. What few people seem to ignore is that there is more free software available for Windows than for Linux and then we don't even make the comparison with a Mac
c) PCs are cheap, new ones, 2nd hand ones.
d) PCs are more flexible; you can really custom made a PC in any way you want, any hardware and it even supports dozens of different operating systems
e) There is a lot more hardware available for a PC than a Mac
f) Why would a family spend money on a Mac when the kids in school use nothing but a PC?
Why would I buy a Mac if everything I work with at work is a PC? I'm not saying that a PC is better than a Mac because most people work with it, no what I really meant is why use two different standards, why educate yourself in two areas?
Ivan, what you and lots of others don't seem to understand is that there ARE good reasons why people use a PC and it's not nice to call many of these users (and many of them are quite intelligent) just people who don't get it.
Many people do understand the reasons why people choose a Mac, so why don't you try to understand why there are millions of people who do have a good reason to choose a PC? You also don't want all people wear the same clothes or drive the same cars do you?
There are not really good reasons to have a PC and not a MAC. There are excuses.

lol!
actually i agree with you. obviously i don't mind people using PCs. it's a good thing to have at least two major competitive platforms.
you understand why Mac is good. but many don't. they think Macs are not compatible and macs are for graphic people only.
Wings, where are you coming from?!? One post your talking about being nice, another post your calling people idiots. Something I think Kerry learned in the elections is that you lose credibility when you contradict yourself.
I have 4 PCs I use at home and 1 Power Mac at work. I love the Mac but also love the fact that I don't pay a penny for the software for the PC. Yeh, I'm a pirate and lovin it... what can I say.... I would rather put those 1000s of $ in my bike than in my PC... or mac....
But if everyone used Macs, there would be viruses for them, hacking and all that... just noone cares about a 2% market...

Justifying theft with greed, interesting...
I gotta say, I get irritated when people assume that Macs are purely tools for creatives. While I own a company that has a creative product, I myself rarely use it as more than an office managment tool.
There is little difference nowadays with regards which platform is better for a particular job. It comes down to user prefferance. I happen to preffer Mac (by a fuckload)
And dude, register your software, particularly if you use it to make money, that shit aint cool...!

I grew up using PCs. Way back in elementary school I used Apple ][s, but after that it was mostly PC labs full of Compaqs or HPs. Starting in high school I really started admiring Macs, but couldn't afford one. I went through the whole "I'll make my PC's GUI look like OSX" phase... which wasn't bad because I learned a lot about GUI design, as well as how to make icons and skins and such. People diss the GUI wannabes, but you sure do learn a hell of a lot about GUIs when you get involved with that, lemmie tell ya. Finally in college I started working with Macs on a regular basis and I'm now one of the three co-op students who work to maintain the Mac labs. I'd now consider myself a Mac person even though I'm still stuck with a PC at home (that should change soon... the co-op job will solve that problem, hehe.)
But anyway, there are certainly advantages to a PC... but those advantages tend only to lay in the "hardware upgradability" and "software availability" areas. If you asked the average PC user why they use a PC, those are most likely the top two reasons they'll give you. That's all well and good, but PCs just can't deliver the kind of software/hardware integration that a Mac can deliver. If you're looking for smoother performance and a more pleasant experience, and are willing to pay a little extra for it, then the Mac is where you want to be, bar none. Either that, or you spend a lot of time and money on third party software to try to make Windows usable for your workflow (or you bend yourself to fit how Microsoft thinks you should do your work!) Personally... Macs are just, well.... better. If you choose to use a PC because you want to play a particular game or want to upgrade your video card every time the cat sneezes, then fine... get a PC. It doesn't change the fact (in my mind) that a Mac is still a better, more efficient computer overall.
BOO YAH!

What's killing me right now is that there's a piece of software that would help me tremendously in a gigantic job, but it's available only for Windows machines. I REALLY don't want to buy a Windows box just to use this software, but in the long run, it could equal a massive cost/income ratio increase when compared to how I'd be doing the same job on my Macs.
I've explored it at great length, and there is NOTHING like it for Macs, as far as I've been able to determine...and believe me—I spent the better part of a week looking.
Problem is, in my eyes, is not so much that it's Windows-Only, it's that the application is missing a lot of things that would make it much better, and it is PLAIN BUTT-FUGLY. The application has been in existence through quite a few versions, and in the areas where it's deficient I daresay that a dedicated Mac-programmer would have built in to the application on the very first version.
did you consider vpc?
yeah, vpc would be cheaper then a real pc
I use a pc at home for games only. However my work has funished me with a loaner G4 (dual 1.25 mirror) so it gets to sit on the desk. Of course the main reason it's up there is so my dog doesn't chew it to peices.
