A Leopard bug my Apple-authorized guru told me about
mara06 (2549 pencils) | Wed, 2008-04-02 16:47The man I rely on for routine service on my Macs (and from whom I purchased them) was in my office today to tweak a network problem I've been having. He told me that the problem was related to a bug he's been reporting to Apple. Seems several of his clients are experiencing this. When your server goes into Sleep mode, the network can't see it. Sometimes this persists even after "waking."
If you're having trouble with this, it's probably been driving you crazy trying to figure out what's wrong with your network. You might want to buzz Apple about it. They should fix this in a future upgrade. The more complaints they get, the faster they might have a fix.

I'm an "all Mac, all the time" network here, so I'm not sure if any of these Mac/Windows comments and fixes would work in such a purely Mac world. It's interesting reading, though, and some clever workarounds! I wonder if Apple is working on this. Has anyone spotted a Mac users forum thread on this?

ps: I've been having this problem since way before 3/28. It dates back to my first Leopard installation, if not before, although I think the problem was initially related to something else. I had people sharing my office and the guru had to tweak my network to let them use it for Internet access and e-mail, but without giving them access to my hard drives. As in many problems, there may be more than one cause to look at.

Sorry, I probably just blindly searched Yahoo and posted the link. :)
As for access to your hard drives, you'd have to give folks your password in order for them to get to it. No special workarounds are needed for that unless there were other drives attached to your computer you wanted them to have access to?
