I prefer working on my fast intel iBook, but I miss the screen real-estate of my old G5 iMac. Luckily there is a really simple solution to get the best of both worlds.

With ScreenRecycler you can easily add a second unused screen to your primary machine without complicated cabling or additional hardware.

All you need to do is connect the two machines with any network. My machines are simply connected over WiFi through an Airport base station.

Download the ScreenRecycler application on both machines. On the primary machine install the file ScreenRecyclerDriver package, copy the ScreenRecycler application to your application folder and restart.

On the extra screen machine just copy the JollysFastVNC included with the download to the Applications folder.

On the primary machine start the ScreenRecycler application and on the secondary machine start the JollysFastVNC. In JollysFast you should be able to select the primary machine and after a few flickers of the screen you will get your second monitor attached to the primary machine.

The speed over WiFi isn't fast, but I use it to hold text and other reference material, so fast refresh rate is not necessary for me. Small objects like the cursor update fast on the second screen so navigation isn't a problem at all.

To get your secondary machine back from zombie mode, just stop ScreenRecycler on the primary machine.

The demo only runs only for a few minutes and you have to keep pressing a button to continue the operation. You have to pay US$30 for on license, which an ok price for such an elegant and simple solution.
