Adobe Brings Out Online Word Processing App Buzzword
natobasso (3953 pencils) | Thu, 2007-11-08 16:18This caught me by surprise, though it probably shouldn't have:
Buzzword, the online word processor acquired by Adobe earlier this month, is now open for a public "preview." There isn't a wealth of features not available in Google Docs or Zoho, but there are a few noticeable differences. The most obvious is the minimalist, Flash-based interface that swings toolbar menus around as you select them. The fonts are also unique—Buzzword uses seven smoothed-out Adobe varieties that venture outside the standard set. The webapp offers all the document saving/printing/sharing features of its brethren, but adds a commenting system for shared documents. Buzzword requires a free sign-up to use.

Very interesting, but I don't where is Adobe going with this. I think Google have nailed with google apps already.
I think Adobe wants a piece of the pie. I think they might also see online apps as the wave of the future; a way to save on packaging and shipping costs. And it's based in flash so it reenforces the use of their technology on the web, along with pdf.
I agree that it's not exactly an original idea on Adobe's part. :)

. . .though, used to be a BIG defender of it, bu now I think its just a lot of 'froo froo' that hampers more than it helps. . .I've noticed that CSS does a LOT of things I used to do in flash, and does it with LESS bandwith hungry ways.
But lots of people still swear by flash. . .
