I really think that the splash screens need to go back to the basis of design rather than boner-producing "look what it does" screens. The latest ones look so abstract and odd. I guess I'm just a fan of cs2/3 pages the most. I like CS5 as well but that's because it's part of better branded/ consistent splash experience than some from the past.
I like Filemaker's splash screen - it sort of unrolls like a carpet but from the center out in all four directions.
