Advice on Podcasting

Hey there,

Just a quick query. I started up my music recommendations blog a month ago and I am planning to start doing 30min - 1hour mix sets of music that I really like. I'm looking for a little advice.

1. I've seen Odeo and was wondering is that a good vehicle to use to help post up my mixes and possibly increase listeners? There's no point doing this if no-one is listening!

2. I assume I will need my own server space to store these mixes (not actually a problem as I have pretty much unlimited storage space). Or is it better to use a hosted podcast service, if such a thing exists?

3. Copyright. Ok, I would ideally love to just play whatever music I want and put it up as a "DJ Mix" - on such a small scale does anyone think that I need to worry about copyright? Each mix I post will come with a full track-listing and, where possible, links to artist sites and where to purchase. I'm not too worried, but thought I'd throw it out there. (of course I will be playing as much creative commons licensed work as possible)

4. If I decide to podcast, should I also be posting links to the mp3 download directly, or is podcast listen-able to by anyone?

I hope these questions make sense.

Cheers,
Alex

I learned:

ITunes is your friend, and makes your life hell at the same time (you get people listening to your show through it, but won't visit your site).

If you get dugg and have 10 - 30 min shows, your bandwidth bill is going to be out of control, or just slow.

All the music I played came from the 'podsafe' network. I wouldn't distribute copywrited content.

Hoped that helped.
