Promotional poster for a local (Boston, MA) hip hop group... pretty much all photoshop with a little help from illustrator.. feedback/advice would be great... most of the people around me are unfortunately easily impressed, so im hoping i can get some honest criticism here...

not much time

dont have much time to tell you everything i like about it, but i do think you are using the hammer and sickle too much.. take it out of the "scars & stripes" in my opinion and change that font to something blocky and militaristic (i forget which font im thinking of but it looks messy like in horror movies).. hope my opinion helps

i agree with you...

i just added the first version i did (without the "R" in scars & stripes) as an attachment... unfortunately the customer is always right and he wouldnt budge on the repetition...
thanks for your input

me too

I was going to say the same thing about the "R"-- sucks about the customer.

I'd change the font on the bottom to the one at the top.

Oh boy. We should start a Clients Hall of Shame! :-)

And does your client realize that the hammer and sickle motif represents the former Soviet Union, not Russia? Oh well. Nitpicking. I agree about the typeface on the bottom matching the one on top. (I'd keep it the same point size as what you've used on top, too.) What is the significance of the pattern inside the hammer and sickle in the R of Rushya?

Hello

It looks like a horror movie poster, but maybe this is a message of the hip-hop group...(?)
I think if you invest more time and think twice a few things. I would think twice the font and the whole composition.

Call me un-hip

I probably just don't get it because to me, honestly, hip-hop is something rabbits do, but the whole Soviet military theme (font, hammer & sickle, tearing up the American flag etc.) is so pre-Reagan era; what's the point? I thought these groups were supposed to be more...well...hip.

the hammer & sickle had to

the hammer & sickle had to be (over)used and as for the background (and inside the "r") i just went with something that would illustrate the album tittle (scars & stripes).... changing the font on the bottom to match the top would definitely work better.... they kinda missed the target with their use of symbols, but they have been committed to that logo for a while now so i wasnt going to ask them to reconsider....
i really appreciate everyones input... its very helpful to see my work interpreted honestly and openly.....
thanks

no problem dude good work on

no problem dude good work on all of it.. reading through the comments theyve been very critical (which is good obviously, thats what we're all here for) but this peice is pretty damn good, better than LOTS of the official posters Ive seen out there, so even uptil here, I say good job, looks pretty professional, much better than anythig i could do.

The pattern inside the big hammer/sickle is hot, may not represent much but does kinda look like red/white/blue scars and still just fits. This fits the bill for a hip-hop group called Rushya and i assume they like it. but cmon take out the sickle in "Rushyan Embassy Entertainment" :-P hehe jk, obviously upto the client

And as a side not this all reminds me of Zangeif from Street Fighter 2.
