You guys probably get the gist, this is my portfolio site for the purpose of trying to get in some extra freelance work. I know the copy is a bit lame at the moment, but I'll work on it. Let me know what you guys thoughts are, and If you feel like it could be improved some how.

Good job, only don't like the main background.
yes I'm brazilian xD
"Because I used a grid system?"
no. because it looks more or less just like this:

I think he was asking, how does it look like a word press template.
I think it looks awesome.

I hate to agree, but it looks like thousands of websites I have seen before, it is hugely better than mine, and I am sure it serves its purpose, so please don't take that as an insult.
What you are not showing is any unique style or flair, and looking at your work that should not be a problem. The site is very rigid and needs personality.
What is with the brush pot? Do you design websites or paint pictures? Unless you are at the top of the tree people want reliable, creative marketeers, not flouncy 'artists'.
Overall, it is tight, but nothing grabs me.
living on dreams and custard creams.
it does look just fine and perfectly competent. but its also perfectly forgettable and looks like about 400 other websites ive seen this year.
not that every website HAS TO be a groundbreaking piece. i do a lot of "utility projects" that id describe just the way ive described yours. but i also dont present those on forums for critique.
I'm not so fan to judge only if the structure is common people thing.
We're talking about designer's portfolio page.
Sometimes some tiny details inside makes the global thing big.
I used to see my friends webpage so "technicaly correct" with a single menu column at left and a "desktop" at right side to show their jobs.
Sometimes I have more pleasure and I am anxious to see the content and not the presentation itself. OK I hate templates too, my webpages are never template oriented just because I prefer to work tableless now.
it's just hierarchic organized, Sometimes I prefer plain things like this than "flash" effects or "where I need to click first" designs.
yes I'm brazilian xD
Seen this a million times before. It's completely utilitarian, but you aren't in a very utilitarian field are you.
It's very flat, nothing really stands out. Sure, hiearchy is there, but nothing grabs my attention.

It'll probably get you clients though but as many said above, it's not unique.
I had my website revised in some sort of slick layout as well but that one wasn't unique as well so I just trashed all that hard work to go back to my unique styling.
Perhaps unique stylings are less efficient, less modern and less slick. And maybe it'll get you less clients but you are unique. For me, as a designer, that's most important. Money is only one currency for the job.

Money is only one currency - true - but it's also the BEST one.
So slick and clean - and look, cliche, calming blue!! It reminds me of the plastic wrappers around school supplies when I go shopping for the next academic year.
Maybe you should change the theme into something more tan-colored, like a sketch board? That way it feels "real" and not overly slick. It seems overly idealistic.
