Concept redesign of my website. I've pared down the sections to just 4 - about, contact, notes [blog] and work [portfolio] and gone for a darker theme.

this is a screenshot of the built template, it's not quite done, i still need to tinker with the text a bit and fix up the footer [which is turned off in this screenshot]

any feedback welcome

Great Start

The layout is clean. Its not the best, but it's clean. The only thing that really bugs me is the background color. It seems gloomy and doesn't make your site exciting. Good job so far.

I agree on the darkness of the site. Doesn't match your recent work either. Not that your site must match your work, but maybe they need to be complimentary to show your "style"?

The only thing bugging me is the masthead--stylize your name a bit further. It's a bit uninspired at the moment.

Great start! Very blog-meets-design site.

i like the simplicity, in general. i wonder about the "i'm a web designer based in melbourne, australia" line and whether it's really important enough to be such a big element. or if it's really the right thing to say in first person like that.

I really like it, and don't mind the background color that much. i would suggest changing the color of the headlines "most recent note, etc" I really like the simplicity great work!

I like it. As said before, jazzy up your name somehow and I would come up with something with a bit more punch for the tagline (I'm a web designer...). That is the first opportunity that you have to show your personality on your site because that is right where the eye goes.

Too clean.

I like the cleanliness of the site, but it's almost too clean -- it's a bit boring. I had to go back to check if it was Lorem Ipsum text because I didn't read it the first time . . . mainly because there is too much text, it makes reading it overwhelming.

I would definitely work on the tagline. "I'm a designer from Melbourne, Australia" doesn't make you any different from other Melbourne designers.

One more thing, as kind of mentioned by Nato, it looks like a blog. I would try to bring out more personality. What makes you different? What defines your style?

I have to admit, I'm kind of tired of the blog set-up. :(

I like it, dark colours and all. The only thing I'd look at is increasing the size of your name. It's competing with the page's other elements. Also, maybe reword the "I'm a web designer..." with something along the lines of a title: WEB DESIGNER (leave out where you are; people can pick that up in your contact section or page address line). Think Web, not Melbourne; don't try and limit your potential client base.

You change your website as often as some people change underwear! :)

I always like it though... nicely designed. I'd put something more exciting than, "I'm a web designer in Melbourne..." though.

And if you use CSS on your website you can make changes to it constantly. One of the benefits and drawbacks of the language. :)
