This is really sweet. What app is used for animations like this? After Effects? Motion? I've been wanting to look into learning about motion graphics, but I don't even know where to start.
in my opinion, or the approach i would have taken, is set up all the typography and the images in Illustrator then animate it in After Effects using motion and masks to reveal the typography as he needs it.
