business card idea

Hi Waleed,

I like the look overall.. but here is a suggestion to maybe enhance what u already have...

Have you seen the toyota print ads? They have been using a this montage of 4 images as a banner... 4 images of different scenaries or whatever, but they seem all integrated by a wave pattern. I know this sounds really abstract, even absurd, but try and get your hands on a toyota print ad for a prius and you'll see what I am talking about. Basically, the images you use on the card should work more cohesively and be more integrated with each other in terms or form and value.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input

Thanks for the input sykobihari, I'll try to look for the Toyota ad on the net as the models are not the same here.

The images on the card are intended to be different and not showing any integration to shows the different types of photography: architecture, corporate, jewelry, .. etc

biz card

I like the look, but feel your name gets lost on both versions. Perhaps place your name at the top/bottom in place of phone number/url?

Thanks, I think the name is

Thanks, I think the name is not contrasty enough too.. I'll try different typefaces, colors, and blends..

The primary function of a

The primary function of a business card is to hold textual information. Your data should be easily readable. At the moment it's a bit hard to find and read this information. I would do one side just for the info and the other side for the mini porti.

Waleed's picture

My older batch of business

My older batch of business cards was like that, 9 images at the back with contact info at the front.. I was going for something different and more attractive.

Clients really liked looking at pics on the card (actual feedback).. I was just leveraging an edge over other business cards one would have on the table.. I'll keep the textual cards for the sales people :-D

Practical use

I guess you wanted to simulate a film strip perforation with the top and bottom text. Email and website is clear, also it can be guessed that these are phone numbers but how will people know that the number at the bottom is also a fax number?

real negatives

Have you thought about using some photos of real negatives with a macro lens do give them some depth. Maybe you could put the positive images on them with photoshop or make the card look like a contact sheet almost.

Or slides are positives, I know it's the wrong shape but what if your whole card represented a slide.

thinking out loud...

Waleed's picture

Exactly Martin, right on

Exactly Martin, right on target, a film strip was my aim :-D

I hi-lighted some characters in red to show what they are:
@ means email
www means website
50 means mobile (know here, with 55 and 56)
1 means landline in Riyadh (known here)

I have a signal detector that would forward each call to it's device; Fax machines send a CNG signal before the actual handshake. I didn't label the contact info since I wanted people to think about it a little.. Call me crazy, but I think it's fun :)

Definitely a cool

Definitely a cool concept.

However, I only knew your name was on there because you said so above the thing. Kerning issues in the "waleed... partner" (I tend to be obsessed with kerning, eh?).

I like the guy on the top looking down at your name. Could you switch the guy on the water thingy and the palmtrees? Then the water thingy will kind of point to your name (I think).

I don't know whether this'll work out, but since your considering the film strip look, how about making the card in portrait format? You could then have the stips going down the side or something, or maybe run diagnaloly across the front.

At the moment, I'm really finding it hard to read the information on the card too. Try having one of the images in black and white format (could also show your black and white photography skill) and have the information in red on that certain frame so it'll be a little easier to read.

Looking good though. I really like your photography.

Thanks Everybody

... for your kind feedback and suggestions.

Let me share with you some comments I received from friends through email:
- The photo of the man is confusing, some might think it's a picture of me. I'll have to consider another corporate image.
- The local gold jewelry is not very effective, a better impact can be achieved when using something from Tiffany & Co, or a watch from TAG Heuer.

I was going to say that

I was going to say that about the photo of the man, but you already got that feedback.

Your photography is great, and I can see why you want to highlight it. However, the trap that you fall into is that you are trying to show a broad range of your photos, but no matter what, a client will look at it and say, "Well, he doesn't seem to do "

My favorite all time business card was for a photographer done by my boss at my last job. He designed a very simple logo for the photographer, which was basically a box with a circle in the middle and a line indicating a shutter switch. It looked like a simplification of an old fasioned box camera. The logo was placed in the center of the card, the rest of the card had a very basic pinstripe pattern vertically on it.

The coup de gras, however, was the die cut hole in the center of the card, right through where the lens of the "camera" was. Both sides were the same layout, with one side saying the name of the business, the other having phone, email, web address, business address.

EVERYONE who sees that card holds it up and looks through the die cut hole. Which then mimicks what they would see if they were looking through a view finder. And NOBODY forgets that card. And they don't throw it out. And they tell people about it. It was dead on perfect. And not a single photo of his was on there.

Perhaps you might consider something similar. A great concept card that gets people to your website where they can see more of your work than you could ever fit on a card.

Just a thought!

Very creative and made me

Very creative and made me smile :)

The majority of clients and prospects here don't visit the website. So, I cannot depend on it in to be a place where they might visit to see photos.. I have to show something that would lure them to the site, and my old/current batch of business cards had 9 small pix on one side and contact info on the other.. People liked to see pix..

I'll consider all comments and thoughts in the modification of the design, and I highly appreciate it..
