Another website critique
dsauna (286 pencils) | Thu, 2007-11-08 17:28I am creating this website for a construction project management company. They wanted to focus more on very expensive beach houses. The picture I'm using is just a place holder until they give me one of theirs. I'm not very happy with the type, any tips on how can I improve it, of course staying within the webdesign bounderies. Any feedbacks are welcome. (this is only a jpeg before starting the coding)

I really like it. And I LOVE the type, very clean design, congrats! The terracota colour isn't quite beachy for me, maybe a dark orange could work. I'm not crazy about the transparency over the photo. Other than that, good job!
Thanks alot. What do you mean by terracota color?

I believe that is the reddish colour.

thanks, any other comments about it?

This is a very popular color right now. It's the color of raw red clay, often seen in Tuscan-style designs (roof tiles, floors, flower pots). You'll also find it used in a lot of Mexican restaurants. It's the color you chose for the far right of the color bar to the right of your photo. I agree that it's not very beachy, unless you're talking about the coast of Spain or Greece or, well, you get the idea.

thank you :)

My initial thoughts are I like the simplicity, but it kind of looks like it could be a template. Like those sites where it allows you to upload photos and it places it in the appropriate place for you. I like the set up, where things are - like the navigation and the photo, but I think it needs more personality and spice.
I'm not fond of the transparent white over the image - it kind of looks like a mistake. Is the logo set in stone?

sorry what do you mean by "Is the logo set in stone?"?

"Set in stone" is an expression that means "unchangeable." When someone asks you if something is "set in stone," they want to know if you are free to make changes in it, or if you have to leave it just as it is.

thanks again. Yes they are set in stone

The issue I'm having is about eye-flow. I am drawn towards the bar of color... my eye ignores the logo, and the nav. Once my eye gets to the nav, it gets confused... the information is too jumbled. Give it some room to breath, maybe bring that color palette into the nav instead of that useless bar. Also, your heading need to have more emphasis. They get lost being so light.
Hope it helps.

got it thanks a lot. I like the idea of using the palette in the navigation instead of just having it there. Thanks for the idea
