Any insight on RAM?
wedgin (267 pencils) | Tue, 2005-02-15 14:31We just got in a stick of Kingston 512MB PC133 ram for my G4 Quicksilver at work. Now the ram is listed as 466mhz-->1Ghz on the invoice and we have been charged almost $300 Canadian for this ram. Now I know having bought DDR ram recently, a 512MB can be purchased for about $100 cdn. Is there any reason why this ram is so expensive? I have a 512MB chip running at 333mhz in my computer at the moment, so there is no real reason why they should have got my computer ram that runs at 466Mhz->1Ghz because it can only run max 333mhz with what I have now. The company we deal with regularily screws us on price, so I just want to verify this.

I've always got my RAM at the same place with always great price and service:

Unless I'm looking at the wrong chip, they're listing the one you just bought for $96.98 USD. http://memoryx.net/pc7-2563.html
It's not Kingston, but manufactured by TwinMos, and does cary a lifetime warranty.
Hope this helps.

I think it's because in the PC world people are overclocking their systems including the ram. You can't really do this with your Mac, so the higher quality ram doesn't make a difference. As long as it passes the hardware test, it's ok.
