Anyone have an alternative input device idea
globi (6 points) | Mon, 2006-03-13 17:41Has anyone suffering from a sore mouse hand from pointing and clicking found an input device that offered a solution? Anyone try any of the "two handed input device" ideas found when searching Google?

Perhaps you need a more comfortable mouse. Or maybe a tablet would be a good solution?
Another vote for a tablet from a former sore handed mouse user. I wrote a small review of a Wacom here.

I used to get a lot of discomfort too. I can recommend a contour mouse and unitray. For years i stuck with the one button appple mouse, but this combination is so much better. They also do ipod cases too and they seem to have good customer service, unlike apple, but i won't go there....
Check out http://www.contourdesign.com/ if you're interested. I am not affiliation with them, just a satisfied customer, but think it is worth pointing out a good experience when you have one.
I do have an old wacom tablet, it doesn't feel as intuitive to use, but i guess it depends what you do most. For illustrative work i think it would be better. The new one looks a lot better though.
I hope this is of some help.
I have used Wacom tablets for three years, and I'm very satisfied with them. They're a little strange at first (it took me 2 months to get used to it) but after that you won't be able to control your computer with anything but a pen :)
You can control the entire GUI with it too btw.
Thank you for your feedback and for the suggestions. I have tried the tablet, but I find it awkward to go back and forth to the keyboard, but I have known others that really like it. I currently work on a laptop, so point with a traditional mouse mostly and then click with the builtin touch pad and buttons with my other hand. This has helped greatly. I have heard of the foot mouse switches, but have not tried them. Neither have I tried the two handed input devices that are available. I have one in mind of my own that I am interested in getting manufactured, but I do not have the resources right now to do so: http://www.pyxlpoint.com
Anyone else using a two handed technique or have comments on it?
Thanks again!
