Anyone recognize this font?
afterglow (571 points) | Wed, 2005-11-23 16:53I've never been the best at distinguishing a font from it's printed appearance. I'm looking for the font on this wedding invite as I've been asked to do something similar for a friend. The quality isn't 100% on this pic.

I can barely even see the font, let alone recognize it. I'm usually very good at this sort of thing, but I can't help without a better copy. Sorry.

Have you tried Minion? - It's difficult to tell but Minion is similar
I don't unfortunately have a better copy as that's the biggest preview I could find. I had gone through one of the "identify a font" sites which gave me a result of El Greco, but I can't find a sample of that font anywhere.

El Greco is a font made by the legendary designer Gunter Gerhard Lange who created Berthold Garamond, Boulevard and much more for the famous Berthold foundry. You can see a sample of the font here. El Greco is the third one in the list. And as you will see, the font doesn't resemble to the one you are looking for.
Carlton is close and so is Monterey, but the 'W' leads me to think it is Goudy old style small caps. Can't be sure of this though as it is a bit small. Using unsharp mask in PS makes it a bit crisper though.
I think I can run with Goudy as it's got what I need for the style of the invite. Thanks for that. A bottle of L&P for you sir ;)
On a related font note as these problems always come in pairs does anyone know how to open a Font.mdimporter Document? I was sent the font ATClassic Roman for a project but it won't open for love nor money with Font Book. I'm not sure if I would have to convert this doc to something more suitable.
