When loading the different pages of CB, the page loads before the CSS. So initially, I get a white page with CB logo, less than a second later, CSS loads and the page is rendered correctly. I tried taking a screenshot, but I'm too slow with my command-shift-3.

I'm using Safari 1.3 under Mac OS X.3.9

That happens to just about every page (including those outside CB) for me. I assume it's a Safari thing.

No problems with the site, but if I try to view the RSS feed in Safari, almost all the images are broken.

I'm noticing that with the new URLS (very nice, BTW), everything is under the root directory. Perhaps they could be organized under /forum, /critique, /weblink or whatever? I wonder what happens now if two things have the same name... Perhaps they should be dated?

For example, this poll might be located at...

Longer, sure, but far more meaningful.

Oh, and P.S., I'd kill for a way to hide signatures. Some of y'all are just outta hand. At the very least, a horizontal rule (hell, I'd settle for the classic two dashes) between the message and the signature so that I can more easily determine what's important.

If two things have the same name they will be numbered. I was thinking to add directories, but i don't know if it adds any value for the search engine to have a category like forum or critique. We do however have category folders for blog posts. That's important, because it tells google what subject we are talking about.

Sigs. Hmmm. We can do a poll about it...

The grouping of paths can be done via the Drupal pathalias too. All you need is to add something like:

[cat]/[yyyy]/[mm]/[dd]/[title].html

This would make the URL appear as:

history/2005/03/31/the_crusades_a_new_evaluation.html

The .html adds nothing to the equation, but some web statistics programs (from the site control panel) can classify content by extension, so you know how many "pages" and how many "categories" are accessed.

The down side of doing this now is that your site will have some broken links from search engines for some time.

about CB is the complete lack of organization. There is no difference between the forums, web links, personal blogs and the main page. All posts end up everywhere in some cases and there is no clear cut structure.

Too many times I see idle discussion topics on the front page of CB when they belong in a forum. For example, ttaylor has a post titled Deauthorizing iTunes and it's on the main page. Why? This is a minor tip which was posted in the forum to begin with.... it should have stayed there because it's not "front page" type of material. I mean, deauthorizing is no secret, nor is it particularly difficult to do.

And what are "Web Links???" They look like more forum posts to me, only they all have a link to another site. Why not just add the link to a running list? Why make it into a lengthy narrative?

I have no problem with the content of CB, but the structure of the site is just horrible – if you aren't paying attention, you never know where your posts are going, or where you currently are on the site.

Let me clarify the first issue of content organization by forum, crit and weblinks. This is user experience driven and not following a librarians traditional view of putting every content into folders whatever the content may be.

Traditionally what you would find in a community site is several rooms or sections in a forum that are titled to divide different type of discussions into rooms. But each room has the same features. They are not tailor-made to their actual content.

For example in an average forum you can ask for crits in a crits section, but the message will look like any other forum topic. You won't get thumbs, gallery or preview images. All you got is a text box with an attachment if you're lucky. On cb the crit section is tailor made for it's function.

The weblinks. In an average forum you would have a section to dump links, but it would not be tailor made to it's function. It would again be a simple text box where you can post a link into your message. Not on cb. Here the link has a special location. The user will always find the link in the same place and the number of clicks are counted and soon will be rated too. In an average forum you would have to click each message and find the links dumped in different places in different formats. On cb you can scroll through all the weblinks and click each of them to check them out without the need to open each thread. That's much better in my opinion.

The forum on cb should be called help or support, because it's for general topics that are mainly used for asking for help or opinons. I can't find the right name for it though. Forum is too generic. Suggestions are welcome.

This makes cb a better user experience from an average forum. There is room for improvement but I think the concept is to provide tailor made solutions for the different sections of the community site, not just a big database of messages.

Regarding the front page. Now it includes all blog posts and any other content that might be of general interest that I decide that should be promoted. I think a better name for it would be Frontpage and I should add another link which is called blogs that would only have the blogs.

The frontpage (now called home) is supposed to be a mix of the most interesting content. I admit that at the moment it's a bit confusing, but it will be cleared up soon. At the moment frontpage is moderated by me, but soon it will be moderated by the users.

So users will pick and promote from blog, forum(?), crit and weblink what gets on the frontpage.

It's still work in progress as you can see and some things will need to be fine tuned, but I promise, you will like this structure more soon than the traditional forums.

On cb now teoretically you get an overview of all the content with just 3 clicks. And because each users activity is tracked you can clearly see what you have read and what's new.

I did not see a 404 yet, but may be able to diagnose it more if I see the logs.

As for PHPSESSID, I noticed that at least twice. When I browse the site, I don't see it at all. However, when I add a comment, I often see it in the URL after I post the comment.
