i did something EXACTLY the same in college for a mock logo on a building in architecture school for a model of a street redevelopment. god damn these large firms make no sense on their fees and what they put out. (ie 2012 olympics logo, wacom logo, this logo we're discussing)

I'm blown away by the money spent on crap logos. I'm selling my services all wrong. :) I think the very fact these logos are being designed by big firms (committees in every sense) ensures the logos will be crappy.
How would a big firm create a good logo? Outsource it? :P

outsource it for pennies on the dollar then tell the person they can't use it in their portfolio. hahaha

i love how they say they could have spent a million but this way they got a bargain. They still got ripped off and they just don't get it. I can't wait to land a large client so i can offer them a realistic price that will be 50% of what the competition charges and yet still nicely profitable.
as for triangle TV, i see the similarity, but damn a triangle is a triangle is a triangle. they're CLEARLY different markets, and it's not like the city council could represent the water/harbour with a color like green, or brown, or red.. lol
