Bakery logo

I was approached by my bro-in-law to come up with a logo for his bakery with the following criteria. The O on Piece O' Cake should be in the center and the 'Piece" and "cake' is wrapped around it. I came up with this, but it needs ton of help!

Hi jHouse,
The name of the bakery is Piece o' Cake, thus the blue line. Thanks.

I used to work as a cake decorator at a place called Piece of Cake... It's a super common name for a cake place.

I wished he had a chance to name it, he bought it with the name. Eventually he'll change it, I think.

I think it's cool the way it is. Including the small imbalances and imperfections. These make it old time sweet.

Oh man, I want me some CAKE!

But meanwhile...

This is, as Ivan says, old-fashioned sweet. I think the public would respond favorably to a logo like this. You might need to give them a little more help seeing the central oval as the letter O. How about using the capital O from a font that has thickness on the sides, so it would "read" more like an O than just an oval with a cake lady inside? If you did that, I'm not sure if that would work with the "icing writing" font. I guess I'd have to see it.

By the way, I wouldn't bother with the apostrophe in something this stylized; you don't really need it. Also, you might want to add a little space between manila and piece.

Gotta get me some cake.

Messy up / crumb it up a bit with the lettering...it's a piece 'o cake, not a tidy uncut slab. As mentioned above, the font is nice but cramped...kind of plopped on. Funky the font up some more, stylize it....I like the beginnings of it.

Why not try turning the "O" into a round cake plate with that funky illustrated cake sitting on it? Ditch the woman...too much clutter.

"manila" doesn't look right where it's sitting...it looks again, like a plopped-down afterthought. If you do decide to have a go with the plate idea, perhaps try writing out "MANILA" as an insignia on the piece of china...

I didn't see the "o'" until I read your description. At first glance it looked like the " ' ' was a mark that was a mistake. I like what mara06 said about using the capital O from a font that has thickness on the sides, so it would "read" more like an O. I thought that was a great idea to solve the problem

I partially agree with Riskart1, Ivan, mara06 & Jhouse. How? read on.

1st of all its great to see a non-web 2 logo (ooooh). The concept is as sweet & soft as the cake, just need some decoration re-arrangement on it. Color palate is also good so as the font (just like cream writing).

As mara06 said, it needs some calculative space in between but have to be more compact in total as pointed by Jhouse.

But I feel the most solid point is about 'O' raise by Riskart. Me too overlooked the 'O' in 1st look & found it lying in your comment. Its become very illusive & it should be, because the graphics is overpowering it. do something with this and you logo is ready to eat.... mean post.

My comment as pic, (Mind its just hand drawn one for a visual only)

The slanty copy on the "piece" "cake" really look weird. I think this every time this post comes up and figured I'd throw it in there.

Yes, it does appear that there is forced skew.
