Bear Naked Granola

Emack's picture

This is a comp for Bear Naked granola. Was trying to convey an old cave painting. We were trying to hit on the natural, organic benefit of the product.

The texture...

is a wicked touch. I would make the blue a little "dirtier". Actually, I would make the whole thing look more like a cave painting. You might have to do it by hand with some modeling paste and acrylic paints though to really make it look like a cave wall.

I like the concept. Research cave paintings.

yup..

I wrote the copy with acrylic and scanned it, and multiplied on the texture. I'll have to mess around with it to make it a little more believable. I'll add some grunge to it, to make it look a little worn and not so perfect. Thanks!

Yeah...

You should look into modeling paste. It's wonderful. You apply it, get the texture you need, it's just like drawing on a wall, believe it or not. I'll show you an example of a cave wall painting when I get home. I honestl;y believe this project of yours shouldn't even be touched by computer.

Well done! I'd like it even better if you added a cave-drawn man "hunting" that Naked logo, as if it was his prey.

Do you need to add "granola" somewhere?

Just thinking like a consumer. I did not know what it was for until you described it. Is it a poster or packaging?

I also agree with all the comments above.

Great concept!

Definitely a great start. As

Definitely a great start.

As others have said, I'd grunge it up a bit. Somehow needs to look more aged, is what I'm thinking (like it's been in a cave for thousands of years). Right now the edges are too clean as if it was just recently painted.

Think, also, of their various forms of application. Some did the whole spit-spray thing with their inks, placing their hand on the wall and blowing out their "ink" from their mouths.

And, I agree, too, that I'm still not sure WHAT food you're advertising in the current ad - unless it's supposed to just act as a teaser and that's it (in which case, it works perfectly, but I'd hope to at least have a web address listed in there so the curious can go online to see what it's all about).

One last thing I'd consider if it were my ad would be to change up the "font" (or your handwriting, in this case) a little in the subhead. Find something complimentary to the main font you're using, but not use the same font (or handwriting style) throughout the entire ad - it becomes overwhelming.

Always love seeing your work pop up here. Refreshingly professional.

Great comments.

I totally agree with the comments about not knowing what exactly the ad is for. Initially, I was thinking about having the different types of granola (trail mix, blueberry, etc) under the actual logo. The other option was having a product shot coming up from the bottom half of the ad. I think the photo of the bag, (which is actually nicely designed) might be a nice variety in composition. Thoughts?

Thanks for the compliment! I really enjoy hearing your comments and feedback. They are always insightful, and very helpful.

Having the bag/product in

Having the bag/product in the ad would definitely be in line with the standard set by their website.

BTW, I borrowed the pic from Flickr; didn't draw it myself.
