best option for printing A3 photography portfolio?
brijnyc (6 pencils) | Wed, 2008-04-23 15:37Hey guys,
I need to print a a3 portfolio of my work to present to clien. I was thinking of doing a photo book...any suggestions? or to print it myself and put it in a portfolio? Not sure which would be the best option...any pointers will be helpful.
cheers

It's purely a personal choice, but if given the option of seeing creative work tucked within the plastic sleeve of a standard portfolio and seeing the art in a custom, hand-stiched book, I'd go with the book myself.
There is a great photographer in the New Haven area (client of mine) who hand stitched his own portfolio and bound it in a wonderful fine-art cover stock, which I printed for him. It's a real delight to handle and shows off his work very well.
If you plan to print it yourself, look into some of the Baryta coated medias that are recently available. Very archival and they have a nice egg-shell luster and a very traditional Fiber-Coated dark-room paper feel. ILFORD Gold Fibre Silk appears to be the favorite for those who have reviewed the various medias.
Without my sense of direction, I don't know where I'd be.
Thanks for that...yep I was thinking about printing it myself...i have a epsom r2400 printer, i want my folio to open flat so i can do spreads...would stitching it make this happen?
Stitching is the way to go if your paper has any real weight/thickness. Google 'binding methods' and see which is right for you.
