Simplified Google results UI
mijlee (502 points) | Wed, 2011-06-29 10:45
Looks like Google are trying another UI iteration at the moment. While lazily searching for dribble rather than putting the full domain into the address bar I was sent to the page shown above. It looks to have a much cleaner monotone set of icons and a nicer treatment of the search results typographically.
I have only been served this version once today, despite repeated attempts, so it is obviously something they are just testing for now. For me it is a much more pleasant design, the focus is on the results rather than on the coloured icons to the left that the current design uses. I’m not so sure about the change of colour in the top nav but maybe because I had only just got used to the light blue version that I like a lot now.
The perfect web dev tool?
mijlee (502 points) | Tue, 2007-04-24 12:57For the last year or more my web development work flow has gone like this:
- Design = PhotoShop
- HTML/PHP = TextMate
- CSS = CSSEdit
- FTP = Transmit
I've been pretty happy all in all but have been looking for someone to combine the dev part of it in one app. Basically I want a bastard child of TextMate and CSSEdit, in one well thought out Cocoa app. Ideally it would be great if this had a good file manager built in too so I can control the assets well. FTP would be a nice bonus but maybe I'm getting a bit greedy. I also love the idea of SubEthaEdit, where you can share and edit a file over a network in really time but nobody could ever combine all of this into one app?
Wrong! Read on to find out the app that may change your dev life.
Photoshop CS3
mijlee (502 points) | Fri, 2006-12-15 13:14
I thought you'd all like to know that Adobe just released a beta version of Photoshop CS3 for general download. The installer is unlimited as long as you have a valid PS CS2 or Creative Suite 2 serial number else it's a 30 day trial.
From my initial exploration there doesn't seem to be a lot of new stuff in this version, apart from a nice new interface and a new variables framework which I have no idea how to use yet.
Obviously one of the big things for Intel Mac users is that it's a Universal Binary. Finally!
Software convergence

I was interested by a question in the forums about the difference between PhotoShop, Illustrator and InDesign. I have been thinking about this too more recently, especially Illustrator and PhotoShop. Adobe is pushing people more and more into buying the full Creative Suite and it is a much smarter way to work now that these products are so integrated.

Google Mars

Spend hours forming the latest conspiracy theories on the crazy formations on the surface of Mars thanks to Google's new Google Mars website.
I only wonder how long it will be before you are able to search for McDonalds or your local Ford Space Car dealership ;)
Any way check it out at Google Mars wesite
CreativeBits on Frappr
mijlee (502 points) | Thu, 2005-11-10 17:31I thought it would be pretty cool if everyone on Creative Bits put themselves down on this Frappr group I just set up. Then we can get a visual representation of where everyone is.
http://www.frappr.com/creativebits
Frappr uses google maps to create groups with a visual display of where everyone is on a global (or local) scale.
The more people that do it the more interesting it will be :)
I will take regular screen grabs of the map and upload it to my server so that the below image will always be current.

Aperture
mijlee (502 points) | Thu, 2005-10-20 08:23
Well Apple have released their ‘PhotoShop beater’ and it looks like it’s going to do the same to the Photographers market as FinalCut did to the editing industry.
Apeture
Aperture might be a little overpriced for my liking but the features are amazingly powerful. Not aiming at the design market at all instead this product is headed straight for the desk of any self respecting professional photographer with a screen big enough to accommodate all of the features.
Apple announcements round 2
mijlee (502 points) | Wed, 2005-10-12 19:04Well here it is, finally the iPod with video!
No feature films yet but there are Music videos and TV shows available in the iTMS but I am guessing that as the format is just MPEG-4 that it will play anything that is ripped to that format.
Google ig?
mijlee (502 points) | Fri, 2005-09-30 14:47Found this completely by accident, but check out!
Looks really interesting. If this is not new please ignore me ;)
