Logos with a meaning

I am not sure how many of you have noticed a hidden symbol in the Federal Express logo. Yeah, I am talking about the 'arrow' that you can see between the E and the x in this logo. The arrow was introduced to underscore speed and precision, which are part of the positioning of the company.

When does a design become viewable ?

Lets see here I was wanting to post something to fill the void.. When does a design becomes viewable? Like in, when are you ready to show it to people and take critques? Some post junk and some post gorgeous designs of absolute art even for just a website.. And on that note, the phrase "I design websites" and followed by that is "Oh is that all" just diggs at me.. :<

But how long does it take to post that ?? How long did someone work on it good or bad. When should you stop and show it to the world ??

There are no answers here just ponderings..

Drawing brands from memory

apple scribbles

Check out this cool attempt to evaluate the actual power of brands by making Austrian people draw a total of twelve logos (nine international, three typically European) from memory, 25 people per brand. Check out this inspirational project. It's a good lesson for us designers.

Angry and nice

angry and nice face

Look at the image above. On the left you see an angry man. On the right a nice woman. Now stand up from you chair and take several steps back. The nice woman is now on the left and the angry man is on the right. Can you tell me how this is done?

Altering the Pattern

The brain is a funny thing. This small organ lodged at the top of the body determines every single move, reaction and utterance that you will make from cradle to grave. The mind achieves this efficiently by forming patterns for the thousands of tiny decisions during any day. Something that has sent people to the moon spends the majority it’s time being as uncreative as possible to keep you alive. Tying your shoelaces properly, leaning slightly forward while climbing the stairs, recognising the difference between a speeding bus and a building. All patterns learnt at an early age which are performed effortlessly without any pause or internal debate.

Companies aren’t ignorant of this and have invested deeply in anticipating your future choices and being there to give you the product/service you never knew you needed. In the creative field, your ability to think in new ways is your career. Time to fight for it.

Ramadan visual symbology

Ramadan Kareem

Now it is Ramadan, the holy month for the muslim world. It's a month of prayers, fasting and celebration during the night. People in arab countries are not allowed to drink, smoke or eat during the day. They do a lot of charity and give gifts to each other at the end of Ramadan.

I'd like to show some of the symbology assocaited with Ramadan. If you're a christian, think of this list as a the muslim xmas tree, jingle bells, santa, etc...

Brain saver, Space saver

Always am I grabbing stuff from the web and saving it as either a webarchive or a bookmark,. Ha that adds up soooo fast and gets lost EVEN with spotlight. A great way to actually learn from these tutorials or lessons of design or what not is to print them :D

Aw but print is expenssive. True. But if you make booklets from them the cost goes WAY down, though it gets a little small ya can still read it ..

Use Coca Booklet
