Blue Pixel Studio Logo last post
ojg76 (81 pencils) | Mon, 2006-10-30 05:27Be honest, one of these logos will represent my GD studio, about the text, it is not treated as a content, it is intended to be part of the UI. I need some critics, specially for those on the botton because I think they are the most optioned.
Thank you very much for your comments

Definately the black one- it would also make a nice flash movie too. Its minimal, simple and clean...
I dislike all of these logos. Basic design ideas are being ignored.

would you name the basic design ideas...?
Because the basics of a many logo design and graphic image are simple geometric shapes -- lines, circles, squares, and triangles, i think... am I right or wrong...? : )
... balance, positive and negative space, readability, simplicity, these are a few basic principles that your logo is lacking.
your type is difficult to read, especially when cut out of the shape (which is a poor use of positive and negative space), the shapes are the type are unbalanced, the shapes are simple, yet you use them in a complex way leading the viewer to be distracted and not able to understand the meaning quickly.

Perhaps when one designs for them self there's something more subjective that's harder to see past. For example the legibility and practical applications of this typeface. Four threads posted on this logo development and there's been no creative progression other than a tweak of color or an added gradient.
would you please show me your personal logo? I just wanna check.... if you don't mind, of course... ; )
For me, his forum is entertainment, not work. If I feel I can help another designer who's asking, I do. If you somehow feel the comments I made on your work were without merit or were not an informed opinion, that's fine. (After you have printed letterhead & business cards or tried to fax or laserprint the logo with the typography, knockouts and gradients you have designed, please come back to this forum and re-read the comments that others and myself have made.)
.......
I have avoided showing my own work on this forum because I get enough critique from my clients! I don't promote myself, so I'd rather show how I promote others. I give my clients the respect to judge my creativity level.
I have run an independent graphic design office for 25 years. Besides identity and design for print, I have worked with museum and gallery exhibition design, performing arts promotion, architectural graphics and signage, and advertising design.
Here's a brief sample of identity designs: image 1
Each design goes through concept development to fit the client's needs. Here's an recent example used in the final presentation of the 'brand story' : image 2
Even the most minimal of typographic logos must fit the need of the client. Here, "Imago" needed to fit the high-end gallery niche and audience for advertising in national publications like ArtNews and Art in America. Even the most simple thing like choosing the appropriate typeface must be a process of finding solutions for the client and meeting their own unique aesthetics. How it is set, scaled in layouts, printed, embossed, die-cut... all of those are design issues which create the identity. Here's the gallery logo shown on the current invitation poster I have being printed this week: image 3
The minimal design of the logotype needed to be applied with the architecture. Here I had the logo plasma diecut into 3/4" stainless steel for exterior signage: image 4
I do advertising graphic design for a major resort city. This is an element of the current campaign. I tried to emphasize the typography and use it to relate to other print pieces and the large-format outdoor displays: image 5
.......
So with that said, I have some experience working with clients, agencies, collaborating with marketing professionals, as well as realworld experience in the production of graphic design for print. I know that clients hire on the quality of work as well as design sensibility.
When it comes to self promotion, I show clients my work. In your case you're introducing yourself and your design sensibility to potential clients with a logo. My critique of you logo is that you have some issues with the typography that needs new solutions. Time will tell if those potential clients feel the same.
i agree with you, it's ok, i'm not upset about critics, i actually asked for it... I just wanted to have something in order to have some inspiration.. sorry if I wasn't undertood... eventually i will work on typeface, is truth what you are saying and i really appreciate your critics... i'm sorry again, in fact, if you feel that you could help in some ways to go further with this, every single word you say would be welcome...
thank you all for everything...
good luck with it.
did you know BluePixelStudios.com is an established design firm?
Thank you for your comments... I'll take that... Those images you posted are great... good work, and thanks again
is not that i want to judge... perhaps i jus want to see your creativity level...
