Brand Managers?

I'm curious how other people in this capacity toe the fine line between diplomacy and demands. That is to say, how do you treat the compulsive requirement to support the brand, protect the logo, and receive buy in from other employees without coming across as fascist?
Have you ever tried to ask someone to update or change a document, logo, or color and received an attitude bordering on hostility, or caught an eye roll or tedious sigh?
I've encountered everything from appreciation and interest to downright hostility and annoyance. Just curious what others had to say.
