NBC Universal changes its logo

Old logo

New logo
Cable giant Comcast Corp. takes over NBC Universal today, or rather NBCUniversal - at least according to the new purple logo. The space, the peacock and the outline of a globe are no more.
The colorful bird will remain part of the brand of NBC, the broadcaster, while the spinning globe will still be part of the graphic for Universal, the movie studio and theme park operator. And officially, the company’s name is still NBC Universal. But the space-less corporate logo is meant to represent the unity of its two main divisions.
Simplifying is good, but new font isn't something I fall head over heels for.

The old one was better!

Yeah it makes sense to get the whole logo more in one shape, first it was really NBC + Universal, now it's NBCUniversal. But I don't like the font either and the blue+white.

Is any designer to work for free for them? Please let's make a donation logo.
yes I'm brazilian xD
Meh, I'm(and Comcast is) more interested in these two things:
What to do with MSNBC and NBCNews.
Go forward with an ESPN like Sports networks with the merger of NBCSports, Universal Sports, Verses and the Comcast Sportsnet Channels.
The 2012 Olympics will be the largest US viewing audience for the Olympics ever, with the multiple TV channels and internet sites thanks to the Comcast merger(
But after that ABC/Disney or Fox could go after the Olympics, as they have as many channels to broadcast the games(Thanks in part to ESPN and Fox Sports, but both are not as assessable as the Comcast Channels, nor are they in as many homes)
No peacock?
Comcast probably thought New Coke was a good idea too.
There is nothing about that type face that says "universal" to me. It is almost too informal, and the tracking is too tight.
What's up with all the crappy redesigns lately? New does not always equal better.
The typeface reminds me of something a college student would use because they didn't have much of a choice from the font library offer to them.
The logo is not very dynamic.
