Business Card
sykobihari (52 pencils) | Wed, 2005-07-27 06:25Hi, I am attending a conference this August and the first card is for that event specific purpose.
The second card is more the general business card. I don't have a formal business and offer my services on a referential basis.
I would appreciate your reactions to both these card design ideas.

The card shown here on the Critique Page is very cool. I quite like it. It is different and definitely stands out. The colors are great and it has a very modern / retro feel to it. Excellent work!
However, as for the Visiting Card.pdf I can't say I like it. You definitely need to loose the tacky border. I do like your name/signature on the card, and the minimalist info. I think you could make this card look very pro by making the background color a deep rich color or even black. Make your name lighter in a accent color. I think just your name and title on a high quality paper with a rich background color will look wonderful.

The card shown here is great! It's fresh and retro at the same time, if that's possible. :) I would try to posterize the photo, see if it feels better.
The one attached however I don't like. Maybe you could do a simplified version of the first design?
what an awesome business card! I'd hire you.
My way of giving approval :)
wow! thanks guys. i have been unemployed for the last 2 months since i graduated and been feeling really down and thanks to your posiive response, feel so much better this morning.
to be honest, the card is inspired from a poster i saw and adapted it to a business card type format. glad you guys liked it.
as for the second card, i just may hold that off and concentrate on adapting this one for a more general audience. I am trying to get my "foot into the door" of an ad agency. Ideally i would like to work in the creative department, but am told that it's hella difficult... and so don't mind doing account servicing or production or even media... anything... kinda desperate.
would you have any suggestions on how i could go about doing that.. i mean right now the red box under my name tells you about my degree... should i replace that with a tite of some sort? "Communication and Design" / Communication Solutions...??? any ideas?
I really like the original! The attached one doesn't do anything for me.
From the first view the card looks very original. However I have a problem trying to pick the center. I wouldn't say the card is disbalanced, but the eye is jumping from place to place without actually getting information. As a result I will not be able to remember anything written on the card.
I would suggest decreasing the number of red stripes to one (perhaps the title). Also what do you need the date for?
The Date: Well, it's unconventional to have a date on the card but I thought it might be a good idea. the brain uses several ways to store information and one of these ways is thru chronology. So, I want the people I give my card, to remember that I met them in August 2005 at the conference I am attending and presenting at.
As for the red stripes.. I try and hold the eye from flowing off the card and try to use the red stripes as a guide...
down the photograph, left to right reading the name, up to the university and then a diagonal cutting across the card to the 05'august... and the address... (well, atleast thats what I am trying to do).. but thanks for comment.. i will try and reduce the red stripes and post again.
