Business cards
Submitted by Charlsie on Fri, 2008-11-14 20:09.
Im seeking a unique business card. I'm a professional make up artist and I'd like something that had a lipstick/gloss sample on it. I love the cards on here, any suggestions as to whom I should seek out to assist me?
Thanks!

I suspect...
I suspect it's not that we can't help. It is rather that a lot of people come here to get away from doing work and, instead, discuss it, and the issues around it with like-minded people.
As it stands, this is a place for open discussion rather than for pitching.
It might be interesting, though, to start a discussion with Ivan about these work requests and how they fit in with the goals and purpose of creativebits. I agree with you that most people who post requests get something of a harsh response that could easily be answered by a 'sticky' 'no work requests' post, or a specific forum/site area for these sorts of queries.
Yeah...
I've always wondered about that too Jhouse...I mean some of my clients are in the States..should I have told them to contact someone local instead?

i often think the responses to these kinds of posts are a bit harsh. i can see why people might not want this to become a place for people to post looking for designers, at least not in the main forum. maybe if there was a subforum for people to ask for designers it wouldn't bother people as much.
still, no reason to be rude to people asking here. they were likely just googling for sites they could ask on and decided to post here.
I have to agree with the
I have to agree with the majority on this one. This person took the time to sign up, add a picture and make a very polite request. I would say that if you want to pass on the job, then pass on the post as well.
I am sure there are plenty of regulars here that could help her out, but I would imagine that possibility has dwindled now...

this is all mostly what...
this is all mostly what I explained in my last post to the other request.
I don't recall a rule saying it's forbidden, but it's also not the best place for it, there are sites designers pay to be listed on for the purpose of finding work, that offer features such as an escro pay system designed to protect both the client and the designer. these sites are not hard to find with a simple google search.
There is a "jobs" section to CB, why not also a "designer finder" section? We already have an option to indicate whether we're available for freelacing or not in our profile.

Yeah, but a lot of times
when designers have to pay for a listing, employers have to as well. I say if they want to post up a job, according to all the rules and regulations of a non spec job, do it. Go for it.

I mentioned recently that I got a new client through CreativeBits, but he chose to contact me directly based on some comments I'd made on the Critique page about a design submitted by someone working in his field. After we talked a bit more, he confirmed his suspicion that I might be the right designer to tackle his new logo, and we went from there. It turned out very well for both of us :-)
Charlsie, may I suggest that you do some of that kind of investigation? See if anyone here seems to be enough on your wavelength to warrant getting in touch with them off-site. Most of us post URLs and/or e-mail addies. Naturally, it would make sense for you to deal with someone whose access to commercial print resources wouldn't entail lengthy turnaround time, high shipping charges, or the possibility of sub-par quality. Be careful dealing with strangers!
Good luck with your startup. It sounds like fun!
