Oh my god, did you just use the word "pop"?! :) You must be in marketing.

If this is a logo, please read this post: http://creativebits.org/45_rules_creating_logo_must_read_if_you_are_doing_logo

and this one:

I must agree "pop" is a cheese term that I have come to expect from account executives but I encourage you to view this link.

The clip illustrates the importance of specifically "direct response marketing" from someone who knows a little about advertising. I know marketing has gotten a bad rap and has become the red-headed stepchild of advertising but marketing people may know a little more about what they're doing than you give them credit for. I haven't commented on the logo. But a little more thought needs to be put forth if this is truly a logo design. I would start from square one because this mark isn't communicating a thing- hot button or no hot button.

Hm..

I'd say to salvage this would be to start over. Are you trying to improve on an already existing logo and you have to use the RD in that format? If not, try something else- a different font, make the letters themselves 3d like a box?

Is there a reason why it needs to be "like a button"? If so, here is a link to instructions on how to make those glassy buttons in Illustrator.

http://www.webdesign.org/web/vector-graphics/adobe-illustrator/make-glassy-buttons-with-illustrator.6834.html

Also, here is a link for free 3d fonts. I'm not saying that is is good to use a font only, but it could possibly give you some ideas.

Hope this helps.

honestly, you need to start from scratch and from the beginning.

why a "button"? what's your creative brief? who is this company? what do they do? what makes them special? what do they want to communicate with their logo? have you sat down with them and gotten something like a list of words that they think describe how they want to be thought of when people see their logo? or how they fit in their industry (what is their industry?)?

you really haven't provided much information so it's nearly impossible to tell you whether this logo is right for the company you're designing it for.

as far as general response to the logo itself in a vacuum, there are a number of issues. from a presentation perspective, you cropped off the circle, which makes it look odd. as nate would ask, how would it work in black and white (which is how you should design it, shape before color)? what are you trying to say? i kinda get research and development because of the acronym, but i presume the name of the company isn't research and development.

spell out what you're trying to accomplish.

Wish I could reach new posters the way I've reached the regulars here with my chirping on about "black and white". :)

Designers who use the word "POP" should have their Adobe Suite license temporarily deactivated for two weeks.

Kinda hard to critique your logo without knowing anything about the company. Im sure you can do better though.

If the level of discourse wasn't usually so high here...I'd call "troll" on this one. It's almost too good to be true.

I think we all need a little more information. Is it a button??? Is there another reason you need it to be like a "hot button." What do you mean when you say "hot button?"

I think the logo needs a lot of work to be hot at all, but it's a start..but in reality, and start over and take another look. The sphear/button part of your logo is definitely not working, and you really need to take another gander at fonts.

I'd start off more in sketch style...keep it black & white to make sure it is working before you try to make it look like a "hot button."
