bussiness card

bussiness card

I'm working on a business card; I do illustration which has a hand-drawn, fun, bright kind of look. I'm inspired by a lot of the hand-lettered typography from the 70's. The back will be a solid matte color (or black). -I'm think of making a VERY simple all-over line drawing (again, organic 70's style lines) and having that applied as a uv spot varnish. Cost isn't a huge issue as I have a friend who works at a high-end print shop. Any thoughts? thank you!

Has a Call Girl feel to it. Doesn't say what you do. You can't rely on peoples memory to remember your business. I am not a fan of the black, try playing with different shades and colours. Overall it lacks subtance.

but the comic sans-like font is bad. and i'm not sure what the 70s hand-lettered type accomplishes. maybe if i saw your illustration, i would understand better, but it really is effective at looking 70s, it looks dated.

since you have your own web site (or are planning on it, since it doesn't seem to be live), your email address should be at that site and not gmail. looks more professional.

How about a great detail of your best illustration and your name and contact info much smaller.

I agree that the black is heavy for a 70's style.

I'll try some color changes, go for a different background color to open it up a bit. I was thinking of using a big blimp I drew as the central image, rather than my name... although I might go back to the name. I've done well with that type of hand lettering before. Is it dated?-- maybe... but Call Girl? -- no way! Gee Whiz!!

Gwells, the font for the contact info IS kind of... uh..... wrong... any suggestions? Something warm and friendly but clean?

I like the hand lettered name, it's fun and friendly looking. I have to agree about the black background though. It makes the colors appear almost neon and is sort of harsh for what you are trying to accomplish. What about a more natural brown/tan color? something dull to make the colors pop.
I also think you should explore some more font options for your contact info. Have you thought about handlettering it?

Hi, I'm trying to think of another color scheme, with a tan background, brown and dark red for the lettering. Although that might be for something else entirely! I also realized my home monitor is waaaaayyyyy off on the magentas and reds and what everyone else is seeing above looks pretty garish compared to what I intended. The letters are actually much less saturated; there are cooler, whiter.

Thanks for suggesting the hand lettering for the contact info. I'll give it a try. There is a cursive font I like called Karine. Isn't that getting to cute?

thanks for all the good comments!

Just saw your website, I really enjoy your style of work. I think your idea of using the blimp is a good one after seeing it on the site. Maybe incorporate the purple background of the header on the card. I think using your actual handwriting will give it a more personal touch.
Anyway, your work is lovely!
