If I understand the original
If I understand the original poster correctly: you want to convert the illustrator file into a Quark Xpress or InDesign file? I have to ask why? You can import the illustrator file in InDesign or you can save the Illustrator file as an EPS and import that into Quark.
You could cut and paste from Illustrator into InDesign but some effects from Illustator might not make it through.
Abdul: Indd is a layout app and Illustrator is a drawing app. Subtle differences but I've met many an prepress operator that loathe getting Illustrator documents instead of Indd/Quark/PDFs. I finds that PDf is the choice of many nowadays (thank goodness).
yes...
you can place the .ai file directly into InDesign. I do this quite a lot to create PDF's from multiple Illustrator pages.
