Use the Place command under the file menu and when you get the place window check the option "show import options" and choose your .doc file.
You will get a new window where you can make choices what you want to import from the wordfile.
Some precautions: Word styles are limited in regard to Indesign. So I would make up my own Indesign Styles and in the intermediate window choose for the option "map styles".
So when the normal style is used in the word document I would remap to my "body" InDesign style.
good luck
Great pointer Fidel. But I guess I should have been more specific about my question. I'm not used to posting...
I am actually trying to replace styled text in InD with styled text from a Word doc. In other words, I already have linked text boxes populated with text in InD and I am wondering if there was a way to import the styled text from a Word doc into my already established text boxes in InD.
Thanks for your help!
Not sure how to 'paste without formatting" into an established text box... The option to 'paste without formatting' is grayed out if I select my established text box with the Text tool.
Select all the text in your linked boxes.
Do the same as in my earlier post.
In the window choose the option to keep the formatting of the word file.
Now your Indesign text boxes will be populated with the wordfile and the word formatting should be kept.
That did it. Gracias de todo corazon Fidel!
