Another for ya,
catalogue covers for a jewellery company, They hav'nt decided on a size format and the ' open space' at the bottom is for company details which are t.b.d. the back cover is just black with small logo bottom left, the photos are mine and the logo cant be changed (boo).
They dont sell the chain hence why it is out of focus.
C/M wanted the flames to add drama to what would be just another photo of a necklace.
Would you pick this up to see more?

it is very cliched!
im aware the 'jewellery' sits between the flames, the catalogue will only ever be in jewellery shops and i dont think it needs the word on at all because its obvious whats inside, that was me trying to have it there but not. if that makes sense

It looks like someone just learned a new photoshop effect. That aside, I just have to ask... what's with the creepy alien hiding in the flames on the left?
Well done! You have found the "MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A FLAMING METEOR FROM SPACE COMING TO DESTROY THE EARTH! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!" button in Photoshop.
I bow to your technical superiority and expertise. I doubt I could ever have found (or have even worked up the energy to find) this shiny red button which turns photographs into images which makes souls cower in mortal fear.
Legibility?! You called that one buddy! If the customer had the cojones to actually go anywhere near that 'burning meteor of assured fiery death from above' front cover, you can bet your bottom dollar they'll open it and quickly forget all about those words on the front page that couldn't read.
Now stop showing off and go conquer that big wide world of design!

I don't like the typography at all. Make it simple! Your image is very complex.
I think the background of the image should be dark, black. Also I'm not quite sure what's going on with the flames...
But to answer your question. I would probably pick it up as I can't make sense of it and want to find out what's going on.
The idea is to sell the jewelry, right? Well, right now, that gemstone isn't looking very attractive to me. You want that to be the highlight, not an afterthought. Simplify.

The idea is great, i would repair the typo' on the left version though. it seems to be shrouded/ Hidden by the flames...layer issue? work on it!
It's different.
I prefer the one on the left. However, I would also try moving the logo straight down to just above white marble where the additional text is to go; plus, I would move it in front of the jewel.
