This is not a mockup, it is for real. Everything works perfectly, except for the search. Once I get that done sometime next week, it'll be out...

That looks great! Are the images resized? Also, where is the reflection coming from?
The reflection is just for show...it doesn't show up in the actual widget. Yes, I made the images resize. It looks a lot like the old widget when you first open it, you get a list of articles, and clicking on one opens up the blurb. Then you can click read more to open the page on CB. :)
Um... feels very cluttered?
I would need to see this in action to know how it really looks and feels... have you built in window resizing for this too?

Lemme guess... are you a bit pissed that you weren't part of the project this time? You're still on the other side of the widget...so chill...
There isn't any window resizing, the scrollbar however works.
hehe its not that at all buddy, seriously. Just saying, design wise it feels like everything is being crammed in to the widget and imo looks messy.
Like I said, i'd need to see it in action to really know :)

Nice to see you working on a improved Dashboard Widget for Creativebits..
Here is what I like the widget to be..
First remember one thing.. The widget can't contain the whole CB site, so don't try to fit the whole site in it.. Just think of it as a small utility app where the member instantly could find out the latest material or search on Creativebits for a specific thing..
I think it's great to display content inside the widget rather then instantly goto Creativebits, but I only want a teaser in the widget.. Nothing else as a whole page would eat some Bandwith up.. Better have a teaser, if the reader is interested more he'll just simply click read more and is taken directly to CB and the article..
I think it would be great if you in someway could display search results inside the widget and when you click on a subject you'll be taken to CB trough your browser to the result..
What I think could be improve later on is to style it more like the CB v3 style and perhaps make a little css switcher inside the widgets pref to change style on it.. And I also must say that you need to have a resize tag in the right bottom corner in order to easily resize the window..
And the scrollbar color I don't like.. I would rather preciate it in grey design..
1. I'm not trying to fit the whole site in.
2. Only the teaser is displayed, with a "read more" link. If there is a picture, you can click on the title of the article.
3. Too complicated.
4. I don't know what the CB 3 style is...care to inform me?
5. Jammo made the scroll bar himself. I don't think there's anything wrong with it.
Other points:
1. It works just like the old widget, only you can read a blurb, and can easily switch between feeds like Ivan wanted.
2. It won't be released until I get the search to work, so be patient. Btw it has something to do with the RSS handler, it locks out certain keystrokes. I got it to accept letters, but enter is not working.
Please chill down, I'm not trying to be mean, just sharing thoughts..

OK. The problem is that the images used in the preview are full sized images that are scaled. If you're concerned about bandwidth problems, you have to hack the RSS feed to display separate small versions of the pix. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it.
Search results inside the widget aren't going to happen. As you said, we don't have to fit the whole site in the widget, and I don't think it's worth spending a lot of time on to get the search INSIDE the widget. It will work similarly to the current widget's search.
I am no longer on ICQ (a CB member killed my ICQ account, when I try to sign on, he messages me instantly and crashes the program, and I can't ignore him) so you can message me on AIM about the CB3 details.
One more thing – what CB needs right now is, plain and simple, content. The site doesn't have as much visitors as it once did. I'm doing my best to post content when I can, but I don't have a lot of time right now. If you do then write some stuff once in a while.
