Change font on the fly in Illustrator CS

I have problem with changing the font on the fly in Illustrator CS.
With text selected when I place cursor in the font box and use up and down arrow keys nothing happens.
In Illustrator CS2 and InDesign CS2 everything works fine.
Please provide solution for this problem. I need to work in Illustrator CS.

Which font management program do you use? If you are using FontBook I'd recommend using http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorer instead. It's much more powerful.

You might need to delete your illustrator preference files (this will reset all your settings to 'default'. Search for 'Illustrator' and move the .pref and .plist files to your desktop. Restart Illustrator. Hopefully the problem goes away.

Thank you for your post.
Unfortunately I didn't solve the problem with resetting the Illustrator settings. I will consider fontexplorer.

Are there only certain fonts that cause this issue or can you not see any of your fonts in Illustrator?
