Charging for freelancing...

I'm an in-house designer in packaging. I freelance here and there but when it comes to quotation, i'll be stuck. So I'm wondering how do you charge for designs. I've no idea what the market rate is, I get different answers here and there. I hope someone can enlighten me.

Day rates are tough for us
Day rates are tough for us because we may do print and web design in the same day -- two things I recommend you charge different rates for (web design higher than print).
Keep your contract open as an "estimate" until it's final so you don't get stuck charging too little for a job that might outstrip your original estimate.
