Chatting

How to set up iChat so that I can chat with my friends on MSN? Thank you!

iChat only works for AOL Instant Messaging and .Mac members at this time. There are rumors that OSX 10.4 will include Jabber support in iChat as well.

You can however use Adium to chat with MSN, AOL IM, Jabber and Yahoo members. It's FREE and has quite a large group of loyal users. It also offers many little "Xtras" you can install to add features.

Thanks, Jim. I'm installing it right now. I have lots of friends with MSN and couldn't chat with them (well, actually I could but didn't want to put that msn thing in my computers).

I can confirm, that at least the current beta of OS 10.4 Tiger's iChat includes the Jabber protocol. Saw some screenshots over the weekend of a friend's installation.

i wonder why all these chat apps are not compatible with each other. imagine if there were different types of phone standards and you would need like 5 phones to be able to call all your friends. or if therea were several types of emails. like from hotmail you could only send emails to other hotmail members and so on. so stupid! why can't these companies create routers between MSN and AOL for example???

I blame MicroSoft! :P :x

Of course, I blame them for ANYTHING not right in the computing world.
