CID Prints Logo

Hello all,

It has been a while since I posted anything, due to two main reasons:

1. I was in Iraq for a year.
2. I've been going full time for Graphic Design at The Art Institute.

I'd like to think that I have learned something from uni and from you guys here at CB so I embarked on a journey to redesign this logo implementing what I think I learned so far. The business is a small printing operation aimed at the US Criminal Investigation Command [CID] mainly producing business cards and like material.

Let me know what you guys think.

After staring at it for a while I felt as if the drops were falling on the text, so I tried switching the positions of the elements, I am still undecided.

I like it. Prefer drops at the bottom. For some reason I just feel like the type is too close to the drops. The (invisible) black outline of the drops actually touch "prints". I would add the same space you have between "CID" & Prints" between "Prints" and the top of the black outline on the drops.

The drops also feel too big, but that might be because of the issue above. I understand why you've got that size though, and it does make sense.

Excellent Minty advice above :-)

I also think you need a little more space between the CID PRINTS and the drops (which do indeed work better below).

I'd fit the drops within the black area/rounded rectangle. They overpower the CID right now. Not bad!

Thank you guys for the advice, I agree that the text was too close to the black outline, so I fixed it. I also tried fitting the drops inside the square and also making them smaller. The main reason for their size is the fact that this logo will be often printed in very very small sizes at which point all I need for people to do is recognize the logo and not necessarily read the text [which will still be legible, just smaller than the drops.

I like the second one, although I realize the drops might overpower the company name, which might be a bad thing. Number three is definitely a no-go for me.

This is a fun logo. Kind of retro.

Middle one as well.
The ONLY things I might try:
- slightly bastardize the "C"; have the curvature of it conform more to the box's edge
- TRY the 'IN" knocked out in the magenta: could be read as CD PRINTS IN ...maybe

Nice job.

gavity goes down, so the weight should be at the bottom, that's why the drops are better below... very good job IMO the middle one gets my vote. I like how the drops overlap the corners. If the drops don't feel strong enough at smaller sizes you can always shrink the centers to make it bolder without increasing the size of the drops. in fact you might try that anyway with all three versions just to see how it affects them.

in regards to 3dogs comment: The "D" matches to the top corner better than the "C" so perhaps you could Mirror the "D" and make the "C" from it?

Thanks again guys, I verified the shape of the C vs D and the curvature is exactly the same. It was not perfectly centered though, which could have been the reason it seem a bit off. I slightly reduced the size of the drops from the original design. I think it is done now, let me know what you think:
