This is a fake company that I am creating a logo for... A dummy client project that I can include in my portfolio. Any suggestions for improvement are appreciated.

You'll have to kern the space between the T and e, there's too much space. Also might want to do the same with t and y in City.

Sorry, but I think it's time to take this one back a few steps.
IMO the Cat5 cable is like putting scissors in a hair salon logo.
Also the font doesn't lend anything to the name or the business.

I attached a quick pair of my ideas on it.

Not necissarily. What you want to look for is a typeface that gives you good contrast as opposed to sticking to rigid rules like "only sans-serifs for tech companies!"

I would say start over. Come up with a simple and smart concept. Have an idea in your logo. That is the most important! Like in the Fedex logo. Like in the Apple logo, etc.
