Client printed proofs

I designed a CD package for a charity project.
The client took an unfinished proof that I sent to press.
My name is in this unfinished garbage as the designer.
I'm extraordinarily pissed off.
What should I do?

This happens more often than you think, and sometimes by accident. You need to learn to communicate to the client more clearly. Remember that YOU know what you're doing, but they probably don't. It looks good on the screen, so they print it.
You can do a couple things beyond explaining to them that it's a low resolution/unfinished proof:
1) Always send a LOW RES PDF.
2) Watermark the entire thing with a "PROOF" word over the top of the PDF.
3) In the Acrobat file prefs, set the security so that they can't print or copy elements out of the PDF without the password
4) Label the PDF as "PROOF" - that way even the printer will know that it's probably not a "printable" file.
Sorry to hear this happened, but there's really nothing you can do about it except you can accept the fact that shit happens and move on. Lessons learned, eh?!!!

Jim, this is so true. Cllients sometimes don't realize they are making a mistake.
Tell the client that they can make it up to you on the next project. :)
