Climate Change

Hello again! :) Alright I have a client who is starting a new business. After a while of hashing out ideas he came up with the name climate change. His business will be a HVAC business. In other words Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning. He is somewhat of a jokester(obviously from the name). He would like to be known as a fair business owner. And would like to focus on heating commercially but would take anything he can do now.

I have also included my sketches.

#1: decent. but if it ever appears in one color. the border just becomes a perforation.
#2 is the best "idea" and has some promise. but needs more exploration

the rest are just plain bad.

you might start by trying the type from 1 with the icon from 2 and toss that around...

His company name is "climate change"? That sounds too generic to trademark. Has he checked into that - or did he just decide that's what he wanted? I'd settle that question first.

None of these designs grab me. They all look like first generation sketches with no sketching involved - you went straight to illustrator and started banging them out.

WGZN I agree with you on #1 I almost didn't post it for that reason. One color would be a problem. #2 could use a little more. It is a little imbalanced and both the sun and the snowflake could be better. I will have to do a little more work. I guess I needed some direction.

Art D. Rector Yes his name is Climate Change LLC or Climate Change HVAC. He is taking care of the name stuff. As far as I know it is available in the state we live in. I guess I don't understand your statement: "They all look like first generation sketches with no sketching involved - you went straight to illustrator and started banging them out." Yes I did a sketch and then brought them into illustrator. What else do you want to see?

Thank for the comments both of you!
John

I want to see the same thing everyone else wants to see - some fresh, preferably inspired ideas. The red/blue thing combined with the earth might be interesting if done right. The rest are not interesting imho.

So far as the name, you can't trademark a generic word or phrase - ie: no one can own the term "orange juice" because it's too common. "Climate change" falls into the same category imo. Not that I'm a lawyer - but it would be worth it to get a legal opinion if you ask me.

As always...jmho.

I think I may need to clarify something. I do plan on putting color to these. I guess I have always made a logo solid black first. I guess I wanted some feed back about how they stand on their own before I put more work into them. I guess I have gotten that.

The problem is not color. We're all professionals here - we understand why you're working in black and white. Personally - I salute you for that - not nearly enough of the artists coming thru here create logos that will translate well to b/w. These ideas just look half-baked to me. Nothing is grabbing me - which is the whole point of a logo - something catchy and memorable. If you know enough to work a logo in b/w - then you know enough to create something better than this. Make it so.

As always... jmho.

I think it's totally dated.
A lot of "drama" inside that transforms the logo into some dingbats that could exist alone or as generic template for refrigerator or cooling system devices panel. They're not logo anymore for us. Our brain don't classify it.

All typography is a mistery... we don't know why so dramatic symbol can coexist with an typography made for 80's Cafe menu.

Don't burn typography, you can't do it so agressively. Interventions are wellcome but a little subtle. We're not at christmas or selling ar conditionaires.

The arrows around globe can't say us nothing about climate change, only indicates the spin movement.

You need some focus on what they really do. UP and DOWN arrows could indicate an cooling services business.

Sometimes a better logo is no logo enterprise. It depends on target. You need to care to don't be childish.

yes I'm brazilian xD

The thing that bothers me about showing the globe in any of these. Is first, this doesn't sound like a global business. Also to me climate change regarding the earth is usually a bad thing. I would just like to also bring up #5 as it hurts me as a designer to see that in any post regarding design work. I would restart maybe thinking about the way your approaching this logo.

+1 on Leaky. This looks like step 2 in the process - I can actually see progress in the design as you get towards the bottom of the page. The one in the center with the curved arrows looks worthy of more attention - create 3 or 4 ideas like that and flesh them out.
