Coffee's Mug Shots
mrcoffee (27 pencils) | Tue, 2011-01-18 22:30I am new to graphic Design. I starting working for a car wrap company. I love to learn do so super fast. I really need more people to critique my work. Like take this logo for my photography business. Since I made it I think it was stupid to put the disney font in there. This was made entirely in Corel x5.
Thanks and let the bashing begin!

Not a logo.
huh?
sorry I'm dumb, I can't understand the relation between Coffee, Disney and you.
the camera is obvious but the illustration if reduced could say a gun.
yes I'm brazilian xD
well coffee is my last name and its a play on words coffee mug and mug shots, disney was the font in the logo
I think people will make the same question I made and with this branding you could have some "WTF" related problems.
I was thinking you're a troll.
yes I'm brazilian xD
What type of clientele are you trying to attract? Law enforcement organizations?
PS: Corel is still out there?
I think the logo has too much text in it; somebody should be able to look at it, see it, but not think too much about it. Maybe get rid of the “and Design” part, and make the inside of the lens have that 8 shutter aperture look. The design as is would make a good store front design.
@ MacEriu thanks that the input I was looking for.
@ Art D. Rector haha corel is just as good as illustrator. Some things in illustrator are better same as corel. I thought the same but my boss insisted I learned corel. It is no fun when I try to import a file from corel to photoshop, especially when I am doing a corel file to scale and the file is as big as a bus. I made the lens not to look just like the aperture shutter part of the lens but when you put it that way it does look like a gun. Thanks!
I used to defend corel products. But found more often than not, it's output does not play well with others. I was called in to troubleshoot a flash file once and after digging and digging, I asked the client to show me her workflow. She started the process generating her graphics in corel. I had her repeat the process using adobe products. Problem solved.
That aside. This isn't a logo. It's an illustration. Too much going on. I too, see a gun barrel rather than a camera lens. Too many gradients. Font choice seems hacky. If you are going to play on coffee+mug, you need to choose a less sci-fi looking font.
I say start over.
+1. Honestly - haven't seen anything from Corel in 15 years. But when I used to do production, I'd start every Corel conversation with "Listen... I know it looks great on your screen - but the end result will probably be disappointing." To get what the client wanted - the file ALWAYS had to be brought into Illustrator and basically rebuilt. Of course you fought the client the entire way - they always wanted to waste money on film and proofs and everything and THEN they would say "You're right - fix it for me."
@wgzn thanks, I will for sure look into adobe more. I am a photoshop nut. When I started this job my boss was pro corel and told me to use it. This is the input I was looking for and will make me a much better designer. Thanks again!
Like others have said before, way too detailed to be a logo. I'm not even going to ask about your motivation behind using the Disney font.

@ Leaky Penny, hah no motovation kind of threw some elements together too quickly. Too much detail ok np.
"kind of threw some elements together too quickly"
NEVER do this when you're designing. NEVER. Shit, don't even admit to it.

@ Leaky Penny, even when under time constraints? I will remember this!
Yes. Never. Design is not just "throwing some elements together." No offense, but that attitude is why everybody with ms paint and powerpoint now thinks they are a designer. Sorry, touched a nerve. One of my pet peeves!
