Complex traced image in ai SC2

Will an image traced with zillions of paths in AI cs2
give problems to printers?

In my experience, generally it will. You might get lucky though.

Does it depend if the printer knows what he is doing or more on the
equipment he is using?

But usually it ends up with a PostScript error. I think it's the language that can't handle huge number of points. Depends what is huge of course.

yeah it's postcript. Sometimes if there are to many nodes or anchorpoints postcript has to calculate the position and the functions of those zillions of anchorpoints. This sometimes becomes too much and postcript gives some criptic Postcript error message. Even doing a check with your own printer won't give the comfort you want. Because of the low screening quality of your printer it could be that it prints, but with a higher resolution imagesetter everything could go wrong.

Try it and cross your fingers, that's the advice
