Conference Logo
GregSauce (110 pencils) | Thu, 2009-06-04 13:05I was tasked to design a logo for a conference which will be held in Ottawa this summer. The diamond shaped symbol is the organization's logo, i tried to incorperate that into the conference logo, but on design #4 i went with a different approach, focusing on the parliament buildings of Ottawa instead.
Any recommendations?
Things to note :
- The Blue / Grey is the organization's swatch. I have to stick with it.
- Don't hate me for the gradient on Design #1, it was requested.
- The design has to incorporate both english AND french

The text on #1 is more legible compared to the other 3 logos and the contrast is perfect. However I'm not crazy about the gradient on #1. I'm not sure with circle flowing execution. It kinda reminds me of the BMW emblem if you squint your eyes.
Logos #2, #3, #4, in my opinion need more contrast between elements and the text are less legible. You might want to play around with the tracking and kerning, line spacing, alignment, make the text align properly. The elements certainly need breathing room. Give each element a bit of a space in between.
Other than that I think it's a good start :)
I would say that there is a lot of information to convey with this logo.
I would say that I like logo 2 the best because you've made the text cleaner then the rest, but you could still make it cleaner. It seems like a lot of initials making cluttersome feelings.
I like where your headed but I think some details to work out.

Bilingual logos...aren't they fun? The trick is to balance the wordy contents while still retaining a memorable mark.
Agree with first comment about #1 resembling the bm'er emblem.
Font works in #1, but extremely weak in other three.
#4 says Ottawa all the way, but do you think there's another unique way of presenting the parliament buildings, and then launching from there with a bolder font?
Good luck.

several thoughts.
first, don't include their logo as part of your logo. it's brand dilution. their logo can be given prominence and be located near the conference logo in your materials, but it should not be part of the conference logo itself.
second, try to imagine the conference logo as not including the phrases and develop the logo itself with the icon and CSVA/SCAV, with the phrase being separate but included (does that make sense?).
third, what is the actual name of the conference? is it "value analysis, a tool for the times?" is it CSVA/SCAV 2009? if it is, that's what needs to be most prominent and at the top of the hierarchy. it's very confusing to me what this logo is all about. the only hint that it might be a conference logo is the year.
last, the year seems like an afterthought that's just crammed into some available space in all but #4. and in #4 it kinda turns the clock tower into something more phallic than it is.
i know you're just comping here, but watch your kerning, especially in the large type. it only takes a couple of minutes to do decent kerning on a logo.
Thanks for all the great points, I will take them all into consideration.

Triforce is a symbol of three triangles stacked on top of each other. It was used in Legend of Zelda Nintendo games, as well as many mythical origins.
