Contest Poster
michael2012 (128 pencils) | Fri, 2012-05-25 00:22I still need to come up with an image for this poster. i was think of maybe adding a silhouette of a tennis court or a sketchbook with a drawing of a tennis court. This is just a design I came up with. I would like to hear your critique about the design

Kerning, the fonts- what happened? For the love of god, research those whom you're communicating to.
i guess i can't really break some rules like my other poster design project. i really don't know what type face to use that have a youth feel to it and i'm not sure if it would be legible so i decided to use a simple type font.maybe i I should use Geo Sans Light font. i'm trying to do some research but i can't seem to find any good info:(
Just upon Google imaging "tennis" gave me this: http://tinyurl.com/btd9t6l
As you can see, the people at large who enjoy the sports seem to be early to late adults who seem to be typically Caucasian (NA or EU). There is passion for those in the sport, it is competitive and active. Now looking at tennis companies, they are clean, bold and strong with a more professional feel.
Don't get me wrong, you and I understand this is open to artists. You probably could agree as well that where these posters will be posted- won't be typically where artists will look, and if they are- it will come across as a tennis ad, not an art ad. I really think your focus should be the tennis players this affects in hopes that they will suggest to those they know with the talent to submit their artwork. People who know/ are friends with tennis players are more willing to enter because the impact of their design is more profound (their friend enjoys it!) and understand the culture more than a fine artist listening to Linkin Park or Megadeath doing angsty watercolours*
So, with that said- I say you delve into the culture of tennis, look at ads, companies, etc. you don't have to write the biography of tennis, just know the 5 W's of it (Who, what, when, where, why). Good journalism and graphic design in communications have a lot in common: solid research.
*This has always been my view of a fine artist, I have no idea why and its the furthest thing from the truth. Artists come in all shapes sizes and stereotypes- I just find it a funny thing to always think back to (envision a constant memory from a comic strip).
