Contest Poster

Here's a second design I came up with. I added a simple tennis ball shape in the background and made the details shorter. I sstill haven't added the image but i was thinking of adding a sketchbook with a drawing of a tennis court. please share your thoughts

interesting concept. but still pretty goofy.

i guess im having a hard time with the whole solicitation. what exactly are they expecting to receive?

i mean if they are redoing a tennis court that people will play on, players arent going to want a bunch of distracting art or colors on or around the court. and as a homeowner, i wouldnt want the community court all jacked up by a bunch of fine artists who dont know didly about landscape, lighting or traffic flows...

and from the perspective of the submitters: you need to narrow down (in the poster content) whats actually subject to design or the judges are going to waste time looking at a bunch of non-applicable, random art pieces...

if youd explain the situation a bit more, maybe we could help redirect you.

Your homeowner comment made me think of this: http://technabob.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Munich-3D-Basketball-Court1.jpg

I agree with WGZN, clarification of all projects you post before we dive into critiquing it would help us understand the scope of what you're having to communicate.

the purpose of the contest is to provide residents in St. Jamestown a creative way to express and share their ideas on what they want to see in the tennis court.

they are hoping to target this towards the St. James Town community, to all ages, but with slightly more emphasis on the 14-29 age group. i'm suppose to try to make it appeal to all audiences, but still have a youth feel.

Maybe i should have a picture of a youth drawing on a sketchbook and have a sketch of the tennis court in like a bubble speech. or have a picture of a youth holding a tennis court standing in a drawing of a tennis court

This may not be important to you, but your English grammar is poor. "To a literate description..." doesn't mean what you probably want to say. Also, there is still too much text. I would suggest, if you MUST use all this wording, that it go: "Submit artwork or a written description of what you think the renovation should include to [email address].

Try distorting your rectangular text boxes a little. If this is supposed to appeal to children, it's fine to use bright, happy colors, but that's an "audience" that needs an even cleaner message with fewer words.

Thank you for critiquing my poster design and giving me useful advice. I don't want to let my client down with a poster that doesn't communicate effectively

whats the problem with the existing tennis court and what sort of things are budgeted?

again, if you dont give some sort of guideline in the poster, youre likely to wind up with a bunch of waterfalls, unicorns and other unusable nonsense

the problem with the existing tennis court are the cracks on the ground, broken fences, the surface of the court cushion, and the missing tennis net. All of which makes it unsafe for youth to play in. http://stjamestownyouth.com/?p=373
