Contract Bidding
hyperkulture.com (183 points) | Sat, 2005-02-19 17:47Ok, I've done a lot of reading on bidding for contracts, but haven't really seen much written about bidding on something that you've written 95% of the code already for.
I actually just finished a web app so similar this week that I could apply nearly all the code a wrote on this contract....and would be able to turn it around in a matter of hours when I know the company that sent me an RFP is expecting a weeklong contract or so.
So my dilema is....milk it for all its worth? Or turn it around for far less money.
I'm leaning on bidding inbetween since I'll be saving them money, but rewarding myself for my previous work (though I was already paid for that work).
Is this a dilema anyone has come across?? What did you do?

I would go somewhere in the middle too. Beat the other bidder suckers if you can but at the same time try to bring out the most $$ for youself possible. A business is meant to be profitable, you are running a business so therefore try to make the most profit out of it.
As long as the custommer is happy, fair should only be $-fair-$ to you. ;)

i once worked at a company where we made a pretty nifty web-sollution that wasn't available then (which you now see everywhere on the web). we made it for one of the bigger companies here in iceland and then one of their people quit and started working for another company. he told his new company about our thing and they wanted it ... so the asked us about pricing. we actually sold it for a lot more then the first time... even with this guy knowing how much both companies paid for it...
we had a really really good way of explaining it to them and us...
this is not a really good way of doing business... as my company quit about a year later because of problems like this. :)
i agree with pimptrix... just be fair and everyone will be happy!
Thanks guys, that worked. I actually came up with 3 solutions, ranging from in the middle to super expensive, decided I can save money on what I've already done, and charge big bucks to do more than they expected for the same amount they would have expected to pay for something more basic....everyone wins! I get to do something cool I have less experience, and they get more than they bargained for:)
Its definitely important to make money, but I just never like the feeling of charging someone for a day's worth of work when I only work 10 minutes. I guess thats business though, but still I wanna make good money cuz I rock, not because people are ignorant.....always a thin line I guess:)
