Cook your own food!

Since we're a bunch of creative people... some of us migth also be creative in the kitchen... so I call on you to tell us what is your favorite thing to cook ... and wiriting recipies with it would be nice... :)

I'll start.

This is a recipy I actually got from my friend (ok, not so creative, but it's one of my favorites!!!). It's realy easy to make, really good and really bad for you!

You need:

Bacon (1 pack) - Creame (1/4 liter) - Garlic (3-4 cloves) - Salt - Pepper - Sugar - Egg (3, only the red part!) - Spagetti no. 5 (a bunch)

Start by boiling the spagetti. While it's getting ready, cut the garlic and bacon into bits and fry them on a fryingpan. Add a pinch of sugar (it brings out the flavor in the bacon) and spice with salt/pepper as you wish. When it's ready add some creame (careful not to burn the creame!!) Now take the spagetti (which you have drained) and put into the fryingpan. Mix it all upp and add more creame if you like. Also add more sppices if you like. Let it mix up really good and heat up for a while.

Take it of the cooker and let it cool for a couple of minutes and then take the eggs (reds only) and mix it in.

Go eat!

It's really good, and can be eaten the next day as well... so i'll just hop of and eat the rest of mine from last night! :D

I think my favorite recipe, as well as my girlfriend's is my chicken parmigiana.

  • Start off with a few boneless skinless chicken breasts.
  • Next, in a blender or food processor, blend up some bread into fine bread crumbs.
  • Mix bread crumbs with some dried, shredded parmesean cheese. Set aside.
  • In a bowl, mix olive oil, a bit of oregano, some fresh diced basil, and a bit of chopped fresh garlic (feel free to add any other spices you wish).
  • Preheat oven to 425F.
  • Dip chicken in oil/spice mixture and then coat in bread crumb/cheese mixture, lay on flat pan.
  • Cook for ~25 minutes, then top with a couple of spoonfuls of tomato sauce (homemade is best!) and some shredded fresh parmesean and provalone cheese.
  • Cook for another 5 to 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and tomato sauce is hot.

Goes great with a side of pasta and a ceasar salad. Yum! :P[/]

Ingredients for two large pizza about 14 inches wide:

1 can of Plain Hunt's tomato sauce (15 OZ.- 425 grams)

Buy the "plainest" sauce you can find! Look at the ingredients label, all you really

need is plain tomato sauce!! The less ingredients in there the better :)

3 cups of all purpose flour (not self rising of course)

olive oil

1 tablespoon of dried oregano

1 pound (450 grams) of mozzarella or provolone cheese sliced or chopped (best would be "Mozzarella di Bufala" if you can find it)

1 envelope of active dry yeast (1/4 OZ.-7 grams)

1 teaspoon of fine salt (best if evaporated from sea water) otherwise

regular salt would do it anyway

Preparation:

Mix 1 tablespoon of oregano with the sauce in a bowl

Put the flour in a large bowl and mix the teaspoon of salt in there.

Put the yeast in a small bowl and add 1 and 1/2 cup of very warm water, mix up

and let sit for about 5 minutes.

Add all the water with the yeast slowly in the big bowl with the flour while mixing with your hands. After added all the water feel free to add more if you think it needs it...or if it's too soft add a couple of spoons of flour til the right consistency.

When the dough gets...well looks like a dough, spread a little flour on a large cutting board and Knead for 6 to 8 minutes, until you have made a smooth, soft dough.

Cut the dough in half an make two balls.

Put the dough in two lightly greased bowls with olive oil so it won't stick.

Cover the bowls with thin foil and put in warm (.......quiet .........place) microwave or oven

(OFF of course!)...not in the refrigerator Let sit for 2 hours.

Preheat the oven at 500 F (260 C) with the pizza cooking stone in there.

Sprinkle a tiny bit of white flour on a wide piece of thin foil about 18x22 inches wide (so you can grab the pizza later on) and put the dough on it. Spread it with your hands and/or roller until you get a disc about 13-14 inches wide, 1/16 of an inch thick.

Put about 3 large cooking spoons of tomato sauce on it and spread...( American pizza has way TOO MUCH SAUCE!) Grab the thin foil ( ya may need somebody to help ya you don't want the thing to fold over!) and place it right on the hot stone and cook for 7 minutes at 500 F.

Take the pizza out and spread 1/2 pound of mozzarella on it ( and other toppings you may like) and cook on the stone for another 8-10 minutes till the mozzarella gets some darker brownish spots.

Once the pizza is done garnish with a few leaves of fresh basil.

NB

Don't worry if the pizza ain't perfectly round..it doesn't have to be!!!

That's it!!! Don't forget about the other ball of dough :)

man o man.... that sounds like a challange!!!

one question though... the pizza stone. i have no idea if I can get it. is there any other way to do this?

pompo's picture

The pizza stone makes the crust crispy...

I'm afraid it may be an American "invention" since I've never seen them in Italy.

It's like an emulator for brick ovens. You may be able to find any large flat smooth

stones...the thicker the better....

Once you get the hang of it it's not a challenge at all...we don't order to go pizza anymore...my family is spoiled! :)

you can still probably place the pizza with the tin foil in a pan...but

it ain't going to be as crispy....

Okay, here's what we had for dinner tonight. I got this recipe from the mother of my pal Jodie. The ingredients sound like a weird combination, but it ends up like a sweet and sour chicken. I truly don't know if the ingredients can be found outside of North America, but here goes:

Mix together:

1 packet of dried onion soup mix

1 8oz (237ml) bottle of Russian dressing (for those on other continents, it's a tomato-based salad dressing)

1 16oz (454g) can of whole berry cranberry sauce

Pour all over 2-4 chicken breasts. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 45 minutes.

It's REALLY good with mashed potatoes!

:D

time for a new recipie.

this one is really really really easy, takes about 5 minutes to repair, cheap and really really really good.

what you need (dinner for 3-4) is:

8 pieces of drum sticks (chicken legs)

1 bottle of Heinz Chili Sauce

1 bottle of Sweet&Sour sauce (only sauce, not with stuff and bits included)

spalash of ketchup

1 tablespoon salt

1 tablespoon pepper

1 tablespoon curry

500ml cream (half and half)

mix all the stuff together in a bowl, exept the cream and chicken. take each piece of chicken and "bathe" it in sauce. Place all the chicken in a pyrex dish (or anything that can handle going into the oven). Pour the rest of the sauce over the chicken.

Place in oven for 40 minutes, then pour the cream over everything and keep baking for 15-20 minutes.

Thats all! This is a great dish, a bit spicy, and if you wan't to you can spice it even more with spices or whatever you like.

Great to serve with rice and bread... maybe a salat if you are feeling festive! :)
