You should be able to go to Tools>>InDesign>>Create InDesign Contact Sheet.

The only reason I can think of is that you have the CS applications installed separately rather than as the suit which is the only time I've seen this problem happen.

Is CS up to date? If not try running Adobe Updater and restarting all applications.

i have CS2 applications only

I assume then they aren't installed as a suite and that seems to be the reason why it won't let you do it.

I don't know why it happens but I have seen it before and not been able to find a solution, sorry!
